was scouting on lake x yesterday and this looks like a gator lives here what do you think? slide marks? tracks water entry point? trail going from one marsh to another about 40 yards apart so what do you think? gators arent real common this far north... not impossible but definatly something out of the ordinary... also if this is a gator be mindful of the dog during teal season...

Yep. Looks like gators to me, fairly small ones thought judging by the impressions from the tails.

gators are invading farther and farther north. A few were spotted on Bob Sandlin near Mt. Pleasant last summer.
....I can name that lake because duck hunting is not allowed there.
I can't really tell from your pictures though.
Did it look like gator tracks?

Did it look like gator tracks? They are also on all the Lake X's in the metromess. They are also on Ray Hubbard.

Once it cools down and the crappie start getting in the creeks, I'll go to the gator spot at hubbard and try to snap some pics and post 'em up on here. I'm not going to post up an exact location, cause I don't want 50 million people going to mess with 'em, but I will try to get some pics so you guys just don't think I'm blowin' hot air.

It looks like a trail from pond to pond of a big hairy beaver!
I'd ask him if he's pregnant. He missed a s__tload of periods. I'll take "things that look like a uterus" for $200 Alex.

3x on the Beaver tracks. One thing to remember is on any lake on or east of IH35 there is a good chance it will have a gator in it somewhere in the upper end. Just a fact not a scare tactic. Gators have made an amazing come back from the market hunting of the 50s and 60s. I know on lake x near me that I will hunt that seeing a gator during teal season is not uncommon if you go up the lake far enough. yes gators think dog is a tasty meal and will never pass on a chance to sample

I+1 on beaver tracks, that's the first thing I thought when I saw the pics. There are usually some slides similar to that here at the creek by my house.

Several years ago an old man, well older than me, stopped me and showed me some tracks and tail slide in the mud crossing the road. Told me a big alligator was in the area and had made that, to be careful and that I might not want to hunt there. He was acting serious about it, but I was sure he was pulling my leg. I trapped for several years and secretly knew right off it was from a very large Beaver. Unknown to him I had been on an Alligator hunt that year and still had my Alligator hunting license in my billfold. I turned the joke on him. I told him, "yep, that there would be my gator" I was sent here to get him after he got too close to some other guys". "Looked like he was going to attack". Of course he is looking at me like he knows I am pulling his leg now. But then I pull out my Alligator License. Back in the day when there was originally an Alligator license it was a separate fairly large official looking document as far as licenses go. I handed it to him and told him to let me know if he sees it again, "but don't get too close, they can be dangerous". When he looked at that document his face went from looking at me as a smart elec to "Oh Crap" "There really is a Gator in there!!!!". I snatched that license back and drove off. I never did see him around that spot again.

Yall aren't scared of a little gator are yall! See em all the time down here. We have had a few close calls (grabbing decoys, popping up just outside our decoys and staring at us, the occasional dead bird grab) but they are usually curious more than anything. Can't let it deter you from hunting though! The real scary part is seeing 20 pairs of eyes glowing from the q-beam in the morning.
My one personal theory on gators: hunters are too big and an awkward position for them to easily grab or mistake in the water. Usually everything they go after is either small or swims with their body parallel with the water. Makes it easy for a gator to snatch it up on the surface. Hunters only have their legs in the water for the most part and with them being perpendicular to the water and us being so big in general we seem to be safe for the most part.
