So im looking at hunting two 2-5 acre playa lakes/flooded feilds surrounded by milo..loaded with teal. These lakes are roughly 1.5-2ft deep max and the banks are bare mud. I usually hunt on the edges of playa lakes but this year i want to see if i can get a blind in the middle where there is some tall grasses where the teal are landing. Im thinking of making a semi permanent platform with forklift pallets and cinderblocks, something i can pack up after the season....any ideas or experience? PS. this is in the panhandle, lakes are seasonal...so cant be cemented in ect.

Why do you want a blind out of the water? We used to just use T-Post, wire and brush (whatever was around, usually salt cedars) Set your chairs in the water and you are lower to the ground. We used to have lots of success doing this around Lubbock in shallow playa lakes. I think you will do alot better setting up in the middle of the playa lake.

$20 wallyworld chair and brush around sitting area. Pack coffee and shells and have fun. At the end of the year not blind down take the chair and leave it on the curb for the trash man to take away. I have seem those lakes in Dec. covered with ducks and geese.

Thanks guys looks like this is gona be easier than I thought, ill probably cut a few mesquite trees to use for cover because there is Nothing around it besides cotton and milo. I might need to look into gettin some thicker waders too. Im pumped this is my first season on private, we normaly used layout blinds surrounded by tumbleweeds...being in the middle of the lake is gona be awesome!

If you have teal and access to a private playa with water you really just need a little brush or tall plants, wear full camo with a face net, take a knee or a boat cushion or a stool, stay perfectly still, shoot four times, pick up your birds and your decoys, and your done. I try not to over think teal season.

We used to take a those old plastic lawn chairs and screw a 2X4 across the legs so they don't sink in the mud and sit in about shin deep water. run some netting around you and you're GTG...

Drake Stake-Out Blinds are built exactly for what you described. http://www.drakewaterfowl.com/products/DW75000_DW75006.phpI might even know someone with one for sale at a much reduced price.

Sitting completely still and covering your face might be enough for teal.

Wouldn't that count as a "sink box"?

Probably not if it was in the mudd. But either way if it is private it would not matter one way or the other.

Thought a sink box was illegal no matter what in Texas?
