I made mine out of 3" pvc (5'). Capped one end with a regular cap, the other has a female threaded end. I drilled a hole in the male threaded cap and ran an eye bolt through it. Drilled 1/2" holes, filled with corn, then screwed the cap on. I tied rope from the eye bolt to a tree. I mighta drilled too many holes, I'll find out tomorrow when I go check it.

Got back from the in laws. I estimate there were 20 holes in the 5' tube... Waaaaaaaay tooooooo many. Less than 6 days and there wasn't a sign of corn around the thing. I guess I'm building another. I think I'll make 6-7 holes next time. It worked though, I had 9 hogs playing around with it!

i have thought about using sweet feed or a mix of sweet feed with corn to make it a little sticky from the molasse and make it a little harder for them to empty it.

I have always heard that mixing diesel with jello and corn is awesome, especially the green jello and it will make it syrupy and jello is cheap and easy to get. I am going to try this recipe inside mine and see if that kind of keeps it in there.

Every idea that has been posted works . The jello and diesel is what we use evey winter . But we use the strawberry jello mix , dont know why but the hogs in Falls Co. like it better than any other we used . When using sweet feed put a little more corn in it than the sweet feed , when it gets colder the sweet feed kinda gums or balls up in the tubes. You guys are on the right track thats for sure .

I had a couple pig tubes out on my place in Athens. They work great. Only problem I had is that my horses figured out how to work them.

Yeah we had 20 gallon barrels with flanges welded on the ends with a 3/8" chain anchored to a swivel eyebolt cemented in the ground. They tore up the the regular eyebolts in no time flat, so we went to the swivel type that had a zerk fitting on them. I put 12 holes in it with a .45 ACP and those hogs and the cattle ran that barrel around so much, you would think that someone was training horses in the mud there. They empty it in about 3 weeks on average.
Has anyone put corn in beercans on a "trotline"? I used to do that before I had hog lights and NV. Keeps you awake at night.

God is great, deer is good and wild hogs are crazy.

is there an ideal length on a hog tube?

Stuff my dad said in the deer blind

"I can dive deeper and come up drier"
"did you do that?"

Put a false compartment about 6" long in one end of it. Put a handful of pebbles in there and after it is empty they think corn is still in the tube and keep coming back.

Just attach a steel ring to the chain and drop it over a T-Post. They won't tear up the PVC because it spins and rotates.

Good Hunting,
Gary

Well I just made one. It's my first. I had a peice of 4" pvc that is 6'long so that is what I used. I drilled 6 holes 1/2 round. I'll take it to the lease this next week-end. I didn't know how many holes to drill. I'll see how it works out and post results later.

I've never made one, but I'm thinking that 1/2 in. holes may be just a bit too big. Maybe 3/8 would do better? Let us know what your experience is with this one. Six holes I would think sounds about right. Thanks for the info.

Made mine out of 3" PVC, 5' long. I drilled 5 or 6 holes in them. 1/2" is too small as the corn clogs in them. I went up to 5/8" and they work like a charm.

Heres my effort. I built this tonight in about 20 min for around $20. But I did not have to buy the pipe because I work at an electrical distributor so i found a crushed piece and chopped it down to 8', glued 2 female adapters on and screwed 2 clean out plugs in then screwed an eyelet in the end of one.

Looks good txd33! I put a long rope on mine, they'd have to wrap that thing around a tree a bunch to snap that PVC.
