I was driving on my way home from Las Vegas Monday night. I stopped for a drink in Irran just after dark. I drove all the way back to Temple that night, arriving at around 2:30. All along Hwy 36, I have never seen as many BIG bucks as I did that night. Whoever hunts that area, especially between Eldorado and Brady, are really lucky. Whoever hunts that area should do really good this year, also, they were in really good shape.

Don't think that is Hwy 36. Should be Hwy 190. Hwy 36 goes from Temple thru Gatesville, Hamilton, Etc. There are nice deer in that country though! It is a great drive.

Sounds like he headed North out of Iraan and picked up I-20 in Midland, then hit 36S out of Abilene?

Edited to add: Oh yeah, glad you saw some deer! I bet that kept you awake!

Had a lease in Pecos Co for a few years. Loved the drive but it was a long one. I would stay at the motel in Iraan when there.

Yep, I sure am. We got the first rifle season for Unit 30. Last year was one of the best years I've ever seen out there. Our hunting party was 8 for 9. All 4x4 with over 20 in spreads with 2 exceptions, one was a 14 pt and another was a small 3x3. From what I've heard, supposed to be another good year, 62 days till we leave but who's counting.

Copperhead....I'll wave at you on my way out there. Will be hunting Unit 24 at the end of October, and a muzzy hunt! Saw a few nice ones last year....but Murphy step in twice!

And by the way, haven't seen any BIG bucks on 36 yet, but have been seeing lots of does. I hunt in Comanche and travel 36 often!

I wish you the best of luck out there this year, last year was a really good year for us. I saw some some big ones as well and I think Murphy lives out there for I run in to him every year. We'll be going out there this year on 36, I always see good deer all the way to Cross Plains.
