EDIT: I found the Maxima350, lol

Martin has a serious issue with their limbs right now. I was at David's outdoors about 2 weeks ago and someone brought in their brand new Martin Warthog and the guy said it blew up on the 9th shot!!. Limb stayed attached but was severelly cracked and splintered.

Wow! That makes the fourth bow I have heard about exploding this week. Each one has been a different make. Just kind of wierd that I have heard about so many in such a short time. One guy's bow was a DXT that he had left out in the cab of his truck for 5 hours in a 100 + degree weather outside. Crazy stuff and glad your not hurt.

I think the heat might be a small factor. Its probably 200 degrees in a truck

For real? I keep my bow in it's case in my garage every day. Is this bad for it?

Hopefully youre joking, but yes this heat wave we are having is not good for bows left in cars and garages.

I'm not joking. I never heard you have to keep it in a climate controlled environment.

I just bought my first compound late last year (A Cheetah) and I'm hearing more & more stories about blow-ups, some with serious injury. And not just from specific mfrs, either.

Why?

Is it that the ever-growing obsession with speed combined with the demand for the lightest possible materials has forced mfrs. to turn out bows that push the limits?

Or (not implicating anyone, here) are speed-obsessed shooters pushing the bows draw weights and shooting arrows too close to the limits causing bows to fail?

OR have blow-ups always happened and internet and forums have simply made communication of these blow-ups more visible?

Signed,

Apprehensive Archer

I don't know. I was just saying that one particular case, the guy did mention to me that he did leave it out in his truck and had a habbit of doing that more than just once this summer. It was not a brand new bow that he just picked up and left out there. I don't know for sure what all the contributing factors were to his blow up and I did not mean to say that was the leading cause of it. I don't know for sure.

But on the other hand, I'm not leaving it out in my truck because I don't want it stolen, but I do see where sometimes you just have to do it. It would make sense that it should stand up to some bit of heat. I mean if your on the road on a summer hunting trip and you got your bow and you got to stop and eat somewhere, your not gonna leave it in the back of the truck. It should be able to stand up to an hour or two of that I would think. But hey..I'm not engineer or bow manufacturer! smile

Though popular I have never been a martin fan. I didn't like anything about it.

One of my Furys did that a few years back. I sent the bow in and they put new limbs on it. Sucks when it happens, glad you didn't get injured.

Never had any issues with my Cheetah, was good bow. Had it for about 4 months shot about 5 days week probably about 600 shots at most but sold it for only reason of getting cash as I had opportunity to get a 3 week old Matthew DXT from a friend with about 20% discount.
Had a Martin Hunter Old recurve and better yet a Martin Dream Catcher a excellent factory recurve for the Money then about 10yrs ago. Would still like that one.
Hope you get squared away and back to shooting glad no one got hurt physically.

I talked to martin today and didnt get the answer I was looking for, I can either take the bow to a shop and have them call martin for the replacement parts and I pay labor or I can send it to martin and he said it would take about a month not counting shipping times, I wanted to send this bow to them and they send me a new one, this one is only 6mos old, he said no

Thundervee,

I remember Darton SL 50's blowing up all the time back in the day - few folks got injured. I believe it was quality issue more than anything. Glad no one was hurt with your mishap.
