That's what I'm thinkin'. Be like having a sign painted on the truck: "Gun inside. Pry here."

Nice idea, but to me it just a big red beacon for criminals.

since most of those half tons have the ram box, and there is no way to tell the difference unless its open, i dont think a criminal would care one way or the other. they would just as soon steal tools as a rifle, easier to pawn.

I think its a big deal, as its great to see a large coorporate entity showing support to hunters and outdoorsmen. Thats very important nowadays

I agree with Rowney. I think its a smooth move by Chrysler, and probably didn't cost them much. But it's enough to cause me to at least consider a Dodge truck next time I'm in the market...

Too bad it a Dodge, once again Chrysler has come up with a good design / feature. I just wish that they could make a reliable vehicle.

That would need a lot more reinforcement to make me feel comfortable leaving a weapon I own in there. Cool design and use of dead space.

On the Dodge note, I've been mostly satisfied by my 06 2500Dodge however, if you're looking for quality construction and materials look elsewhere. Lucky for me this has been my first and only Dodge and actually the longest primary vehicle I have ever kept. Surprisingly, I stole it new from the dealer and it's current value is not much less than what I paid new....

Anyone notice it said it basically a $2k option to have that on the truck. For that money I'd stick mine under the back seat.

Maybe good for trips back and forth to the lease... but tool boxes of any kind are already Thief magnets. I sure wouldn't want to put a gun in there and leave it alone.

I've had really good service out of my old Dodge Ram 4X4. I bought it new in 2000 and I now have over 250,000 miles on it and all that I have had to replace was a new thermostat and a clutch on the AC compressor. It's the first Dodge that I have ever owned and it's been the most reliable truck that I have ever owned too. up

Notice how they're not 'Dodge' trucks anymore?

They're 'Ram' trucks.

That's a sweet option. The shareholder government overseers won't be pleased though.

It's cool, but I would have a hard time leaving a gun in that box for very long.

Um, I'd rather have the bed space.

And for the record, Dodge trucks get a undeserved, bad rap. I am actually driving an 2004 3/4 ton Ram that is light years ahead of the 2000 Z71 it replaced.

Another expensive idea (for the consumer of course) from the folks at Fiat Chrysler Dodge Inc. Nothing new there!

hopefully they have made the locks better than the door locks. Someone broke into my 97 dodge with a screwdriver, in less than 3 minutes. Lucky I cameout of store intime to not have any loss to the perps. On a 2004 Ford the tailgate lock provides a false sense of security also, found out they are easy to defeete, by-by four wheeler.

Locks are there to remove some tempetation not as a failsafe, those that are determined find a way.

I like it, its not like your leaving your firearms in there all the time, heading to and from the lease it will save some room.
