I remember seeing a thread about this that had some good exercise practices to prepare for the hunting season, but I can't find it for the life of me.

Anyone care to share their routine or post a link if you can find it?

eat right and do p90x or insanity. If you are already in decent shape, one less beer per day.

Definitely need to add weight for hunting season. My swim-suit weight is just too light to handle all the alcohol.

Okay, I don't have a swimsuit weight.

Step 1: STRETCH!!!

Step 2: Go to store and buy beverages and ice.

Step 3: Put beverages and ice in your cooler. Be carefull when lifting the bags of ice. You don't want your back to go out before season even gets here! If its too much stress on you, go in the house, sit down and ask wife/girlfriend/kids to get you something cold to drink. Cool off before starting your work out.

Step 4: When you have recovered, go get you a beverage from the cooler. Better yet, call you hunting buddies over first and have one of them get ya one...or two if you feel you can handle two at a time. Make sure you give them one as well.

Step 5: Pop or twist the top and enjoy!

Step 6: RELAX!!!!

Step 7: Repeat every day until hunting season starts.

rofl cheers

Go to your local gym or try to find out if anyone is teaching a "boot" camp. I have a friend that teaches Brazilian Ju Jitsu (sp) and also teaches a boot camp. I have been doing it since last Nov.2009 3x/week and am really starting to see the results. Went from 197 lbs to 174 lbs and feel a lot better. I have dropped the "Case" from around my waist and am currently carrying a 12 pack. Goal is the 6 pack.

I have also heard good things about P90x. Hardest part is to stay with the program. Too many people start a program and quit after 1-2 weeks. Unfortunately, those are the weeks that it will hurt the most. Keep up with it and you won't be sore the next day.

Good Luck

Less Arby's for some would help.

I ride about 10 miles 4 to 5 nights a week. This is my 5th week and 16 lbs gone so far. We'll see if it helps. I probably won't even break a sweat dove hunting since it is about 100 when I ride. I just need to fit into my hunting clothes.

I'm a gym nut 5 days a week all year long so no special prep is needed.

I do feel sorry for those people that duck hunt with me on certain spots. I'll hoof it out for a mile or more in knee deep mud without stopping carrying all the gear while they just have a gun to tote. Usually I have the dekes setup by the time they get to the spot. rofl I guess the old Marine wild man gear humping dies hard..... hammer

I have yet to come across a rattlesnake in the wild. I kind of wish I would so I could see how they act.

Came across more than I care to remember in our neck of the woods. Luckily timber rattlers aren't really agressive and you've really got to jack with one to get it irritated. Best memory of one was a cat at the lodge out on my old lease reaching down off the porch swatting at one and meowing real loud. Walked out and this 6' long rattler is just letting the cat paw the mess out of it.

I am saying the following with the fear of sounding totally gay, but seriously don't knock it tell you've tried it. I've lost about 30lbs (230 to 200) in about 4 months mostly doing indoor cycling, aka spin class. If you can find a good, then it makes you sweat hard and gives you a range of endurance type excerises that are very condusive to hiking (strength training, cardio, quick speed runs, etc.).

I don't do it as a method for hunting prep, but I went on a quick 4 hr hike a few weeks ago and I thought it was a breeze as compared to 6 months ago.

I utilize lifting, aerobic and endurance.

Feeding, fencing, cutting and grubbing, mowing, hauling and cleaning. I have openings for a pear grubbing class if anyone is interested.

+1
Also, the gas plant I run sits about 110 from 1-7 and the weahouse is 120+,so no thermal conditioning needed..

I work outside year round so I stay pretty much in shape, could stand to loose a few pounds but I am pretty active all times of the year so the weather doesnt bother me.

yeah pretty much!

it does come in handy having to drag out a deer that has made it way back in the brush though.....

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.
