Im sure AR works in alot of places with good deer populations, TPW just needs to take a second look at places that its not working and see if they can figure out why. Are you talking about on individual places or counties?
If you shoot a young deer because a neighbor will shoot it, you are that neighbor.

Has ANYONE asked the "biologists" if the spraying of the brush reducing herbicides in East Texas MIGHT be contributing to the DECLINE in over all numbers? Less food = Fewer deer. No, the "biologist" CAN'T say that. He says,"FEED PROTIEN and DEER PELLETS." Then when you have shot all of the does he says "The hunters have killed TOO many deer." LOL! Biologists will take that into consideration and attempt to adjust the browse surveys to get a better estimate on CC. You usually have to tell them about it though. Upping the doe harvest is the norm when that happens, but I don't think they take into account the crap fawn recr. % that usually accompanies that for a cpl years. Home range doesn't mean a whole lot to them when they are starving (or it's 8-10' under water as the case is for us every year or so)

Well Curly the deer are different.... different deer...
What if Burger King refused to sell to people that were not at least 5'8" when grown (men). Do you think the ones in North Central texas are going to loose as many clients as the Valley? Nope, and go find the ones in New Braunfels or Lyndsey or Muenster or Windthorst with higher germanic concentrations and you know what, won't loose hardly any.
Why? Genetics. Same as the NBA analogy I started months or years ago...

Let me be very specific so I am not misquoted:
My knowledge is limited to Southern Red River County along and near the Sulphur River and south central Fannin/Northern Hunt Co. for AR's. I also have valid comparison anecdotal knowledge from Archer, Baylor, Foard and Real Co to the south.
And 5000 pages of spreadsheets of TPWD data from 1990's to present...

Burger king won't loose/gain any client in Windthorst. There isn't one there. But the beer producers will become rich! Never seen so many people that drink starting at 9 am. But don't you think you are being steriotypical with saying all Germans are short? Guess you could say the same thing for East Texas people all wear overalls and live with 3 generations of the same family and live like the "Water Boy"? That wouldn't nice or correct would it? SO I guess we can assume that all germans are short and drink alot? Guess I'm German. Oh, I am but I'm 5'9" and dont drink a lot of beer....but Whiskey....now we are talking Also guess your deer might need some viagra, because what does genetics have to do with not seeing deer.

I am so confused by this Burger King analogy Better to have used Whataburger? Not one of those in Windthorst either. There isn't one fast food joint there. Guess the Germans figured out that they are bad for ya and might make you grow over 5'8". Right Sig?

OK, but if you excluded patrons based on height, to whatever place.... you'd get more germans in and more hispanic/latino was the point...

I heard Burger King discontinued the Junior Whopper. They want to let them grow so they only serve Whoppers now.

what ever happened to ppl tending to their side of the fence??? Tired of neighbors killing young deer...do something about it yourself, don't expect the gov't to fix your problem. Seems to be the most logical solution if you ask me. Couldn't agree more. Basically, everyone is crying that the extra deer tags have allowed their "neighbors" to shoot more deer. Each place has to managed for its size and the amount of deer it can handle. Sure I could complain that I'm not seeing the usual 10 deer on my 20 acres...but should there really be 10 deer on that 20 acres? or 20 deer on 50 acres? or 40 deer on 100 acres etc.??? No one has shown any statistics on the census on their individual properties prior to and after AR's. The only thing that people are saying is "we aren't seeing the deer we used to see". Does that mean you are only seeing 6 deer vs. 10? Or does that mean you are only seeing 1 deer vs. 20? Sig has stated that the AR's are bad for NE Texas. How does he know what is happening 30 miles away let alone 100 miles away. Each place has to be looked at on an individual basis. Yes I know that the AR's were a blanket program. How do the people that aren't seeing deer know that they aren't the minority in the area they hunt? And when I say minority, I mean the types of property that usually wouldn't hold deer.I have seen posts on here from people in the NE that have seen an improvement. There are places within 15 miles of me that don't see deer while another place 5 miles away is covered up. AR's suck because the gov't did what it does best. It made a political decision to a real problem. A lot of us Anti-AR guys are very management oriented. We are not the poachers or the "if it's brown it's down" crowd. But the TWPD took a decent management tool , the 13" rule, and made a political compromise to get it pasted, extra spike tag, which just defeated the effects of the decent mangement tool. Goverment at its best. Now we are all forced to hunt the same way. What you or I consider good management techniques should not be made law and forced on someone else.

Do not confuse fact with theory. How many 4.5 year old deer are there in the deer population even with AR's?
