I love this new Savage .25-06!! IT stopped her in her tracks. This rifle keeps up with my Rem 700. Its a nail driver.

IMO, "good looking hog" is an oxymoron!

That is a sharp looking rifle. Congrats on the hog.
A hog is nothing more than a bullet receptacle.

Been shooting a 25-06 for about the last 30 years. Winchester in an older Super Grade stock. Love it. Shooting 100 gr Sierra w/ IMR 4831 .....driven fast.

Got one in a Ruger, it's a tack driver for sure. Haven't killed a deer with it yet but have popped a couple of pigs with it.
Congrats on the BBQ....

Hey MVILL the scope is just the Bushnell Dusk till Dawn 6-18x50. Almost didnt buy it but have had no problems with it yet for a $140 scope.

Not trying to stir the pot but if that is a newer savage it will do more than "keep up" with your remmy 700.

nothing feels better than the feeling you get when you shoulder a gun that you know is a tack driver. I have one of those right now and am trying to make more that will generate that same confidence. nice job there.

You are right it is a nail driver. I have shot Mule, whitetail and hog with mine. Once I found out how accurate they are I got real picky because I know I can bring them down. I have one gut one my lease who thinks you need a 180 gr 30/06 to kill the big hogs. When you have a gun like that though the challenge is a ear shot at 100 yds on the hogs saves tracking time also. My gun likes the Hornady or Federal ammo best.

Good job on the hog. I bought my first rifle back in '81 with money I got from graduation. It is a rem 700 bdl in 25-06. My youngest son has been using it the last several years. Love that gun.

Brand withstanding, 25-06 is accurate all on its own.
Have to work at it, for it NOT to shoot...

just about any rifle will kill hogs/deer just fine as long as you can shoot.
that being said, 2506 is a great rifle, and that's a nice looking porker.
congrats!

I have been hunting with 30-06 for 25yrs, but want a gun with less recoil for both me and hopefully younger or female shooters. I'm torn between 7mm-08 and 25-06. Was thinking Rem. SPS. Any thoughts?

Im no expert but I think the better choice would be the 7mm-08 if you are looking for less recoil for women shooters.

Can't go wrong with either. If you hunt open country, I'd go with the 25/06. If you hunt the short range stuff, I'd pick a short action 7-08.

Recoil of the 7-08 and 25-06 is almost the same. Only differce is in availblity of larger grain bullets in the o8, action length, and barrel length. 25-06 is faster and flatter, but longer action and longer barrel.
