Anyone have any idea how much a kudu hunt would cost?
To be blunt and straight forward, I am looking for something that is near guaranteed shot. Not looking for trophy, mostly looking for kudu meat.
I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

I'm pretty sure you could put together a decent plains game hunt in South Africa or Namibia for $10k-$15k, airfare, daily rates, and kudu included. And you'd come home with a lot more than one kudu.

For ~$3800 plus airfare I can get you a Kudu in South Africa plus 3 more animals. Great accomodations, food and liquor included. Here's the one I got summer of '08.

If you want a good hunt look up Impala Safaris. Their main operation is in Zimbabwe and for about $5k plus airfare you can go on a 7 day/10 animal safari. Arnold Payne is awesome and will take good care of you!

Aren't there kudu hunts offered in Texas?

Shooting a kudu cow will cost more than a bull I think.

Yep. Afraid so. Just about all the native African stuff is a LOT higher here. I'm not really sure why but I know for the most part they are a lot more difficult to raise. I saw a pair of warthogs go for sale here in the US for $6500 EACH. Impala hunts here you get for about $3800+. Over there those animals are like $200-$450 each depending on the outfitter you go with.

You might be able to go shoot a young Kudu on someone's ranch here for $5,000-$7,000 but if you want a nice bull.....you are deinitely looking at $10,000+
If you want a MUCH better deal for great meat.....find a place to go shoot a big Eland bull. You can find them for around $3,000 and you will get LOTS of meat. I shot a trophy bull back in 2003 that was right at 2,000 lbs. We got about 700 lbs of de-boned meat off him and it was the best meat I've ever had. You can usually shoot the females for around $1,500 or so.....

2x on the eland - it's better meat anyway + as mentioned, you get alot more of it. You may also look into a non-trophy oryx - I bet you can get a broken horned bull or cow for super cheap right now (as in $500-700, maybe less), and they are excellent eating as well. All the meat will be pretty similar - lean, mild, and very little gameyness.
Kudu cows are more expensive than the bulls. You can buy a live yearling bull for $3500 on the low end, but a cow of any age will run upwards of $9000 - live sale.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.
