Its a good idea to have one. Some grey area when it comes to hog hunting. Err on the side of caution.

if you are going to keep the meat then yes. If you are just going to let them lay to thin the heard down than no. im my mind its not much to get one and why not be on the safe side.

While I completely agree with the advice to go ahead and get a license, it is NOT correct to state categorically that YOU DO NEED A LICENSE TO HUNT FERAL HOGS IN TEXAS.

There ARE exceptions, as quoted from the TPW Outdoor Annual, page 25:

Exceptions: a hunting license is not required to hunt the following:

•Coyotes, if the coyotes are attacking, about to attack, or have recently attacked livestock, domestic animals, or fowl.
Depredating feral hogs, if a landowner (resident or non-resident) or landowner's agent or lessee is taking feral hogs causing depredation on the landowner's land.
•Fur-bearing animals, if the hunter possesses a trapper's license or if the fur-bearing animals are causing depredation.

yes... you need a license to hunt anything in the state of TEXAS

There are a few exceptions but I'm sure you don't qualify.

A license is cheaper than a day in court even if you are found not guilty!

Rick:

it's a moot point, because I always have a license, anyway.

But if you are so sure I don't qualify, I'm quite sure you are wrong.

I am a landowner, with a hog problem. I have spoken with the GW, and he has told me that I do not need a license to shoot all the hogs I care to.

no license required for depredating predators and feral hogs. But it is always a good idea to have your hunting license.
