I mounted my scope, bore sighted it, and went to sight in, wasn't even on paper at 100 yards. Get a bigger target (poster board with target taped on), re-bore sight, still not on target at 100 yards. Move up to 40 yards, still nothing. Any ideas, comments, tips, or advice would be great. Thanks. Both gun and scope are brand new. Bore sight was used in another gun of the exact same caliber, make, and model, and worked perfect.

rings tight and not cocked sideways? sounds like mine when I got it. I would move up to 25 yards and start there to find where you are and move it from that point. I may be wrong but if you bore sighted it and still not even on paper something seems off.

I have never borsighted a gun in my life. I shoot one shot at 25 yds then make my calculated adjustment to be about 1" low. I then shoot a second shot at 25 yds to verify. I then go to 100 yd and fine tune it. I have done this many times and it's yet to take me more than 10-15 rds to get it tight like I want it.

Everything looks ok and is tight. I just can't imagine what it could be. I'm going to take it to Shooter's Supply on Wednesday when I'm off and see if maybe he can figure it out but I've just got no idea. I took the bolt out and looked down the inside of the barrel to bore sight it that way, it lines up.

I always start at 25 yards when I'm sighting in. Close enough that anything within reason should tell you within 2 shots where you are at.

It is simple. Pointles IMO but simple. Tighten the gun down in a vice and find a small object through the bore and then dial your crosshairs to the small object on your scope. It is a poor mans boresight.

Take out the bolt, look down the inside of the barrel (kinda hard but do-able), get set on whatever you're aiming at. While making sure it doesn't move, look through your scope and see if the cross hairs are on what you saw down the inside of your barrel.

Guess you beat me to it, and explained it better in way less words.

Whats the make and model of the gun and the scope? bore siting at a target thats less than 10 feet away is pointless, if your main target is 100 yds.

driller's suggestion works countless times unless the gun flat out wont shoot.

Marlin XL-7 .270 with a Bushnell Elite 3200 DOA 600. I bore sighted at 10 yards. I just don't know if I'd be on at 25 yards if I wasn't even on a 3 ft by 2 or 2 1/2 ft poster board at 40. Guess we'll never know unless I give it a shot though.

I agree with Driller, Make sure everything is tight, then start at 25 yards. I do this with every rifle, The first thing i do is put my gun in the vice and take the bolt out look at the target at 25 yards and adjust accordingly, I shoot it then at 25 yards. It should only take a few shots then I move to 100 for the fine tuning.

I had one do this last week, finally got it on paper but did not have enough "dial room" to get it on zero. I finally noticed that the front ring was not lined up with the base correctly (weaver style). Quick fix and it now shoots 1/2" groups.
