Of course you need your waterfowl stamp but just for lakes it depends if it is a corps lake. I dont know much about other lakes but corps lake you can call the project office to see if they require a permit. Some do and some dont it just depends on the lake. If they require you can go to the project office and fill one out.

The main thing is to hide very well. At JOE POOL LAKE You will need to hide from the ducks and any people that show up. For this reason I only set two decoys. It is enough for the ducks and if anyone shows up I can pick them up in a hurry and Hide. Hide Well. If they find You they WILL take Your spot, Gun and decoys.

I heard about the situation at JOE POOL, and its caught on at lake Worth too. Its pretty similar to the Mexican pirate situation on Falcon, but instead of mexican pirates, you get renegade duck hunter pirates; commonly called NTAC's...What a sad world. People getting duck boat jacked at 4:00a.m. in the morning; taking their boat, guns, dog, and Teal tags.
I hear if your lucky the best that can happen is you get stranded for a few days, most people fair worse.

Chief Wang...welcome to the dark side. You will need to get the waterfowl stamp and a migratory bird stamp. What you may want to do is purchase the annual hunting permit, when you do you will receive a map booklet of various places to hunt around the state that all hunting with the aph permit. Some lakes are not included in the public lands program and are off limits, require a lake specific permit which is usually obtained at the lake office, or they may require only that you have a hunting license with the required stamps. Good Luck.

Sounds weird, I know, but a lot of new duck hunters wear purple for a few years. Seems to work for them.

Book a guided hunt and ask the guide these questions.
It will work better than taking these questions to the circus.
Good luck.

Licenses: 1. As Kdub said you need the state migratory bird stamp/endoresement (same one used for dove). If you get the supercombo it is already on there.
2. Make sure to have Hip certified on your license. (They ask you how many birds you shot last year)
3. Get a federal waterfowl stamp (actual stamp printed by the post office) and put it on the back of your license and sign it.
4. Look up the lake controlling authority for the lakes you want to hunt. Some may require an Army COE permit and some may require the Texas Annual Public Hunting (APH) permit. Find out which ones you need and get them.
Getting ducks to come in is usually easier if you don't call them as a new hunter. You need to practice quite a bit and ask for help. Sometimes people do seminars at Cabela's or Bass Pro.
You need to be still and practically invisible to get them to come into range. Having a little motion in your spread to create ripples can help a lot.
Join DU or Delta and get their magazines. They have a lot of good articles. There are a lot of tips on their websites too.

Keep checking out this section, browse through the old posts too. There is a TON of good info on here. Sometimes you have to wade through the BS to get there first though. We allllll like to BS, but there is good info once you get to the bottom of it

Buy your federal duck stamp at us post office. Last year if you got the stamp with your hunting lic the federal stamped was mailed to you. Several folks had trouble getting their stamp. Those that purchased at the post office got their stamp right their.

welcome chief, always wear your waders while on thf, the s@#t gets deep... best thing for you up there is to meet some other hunters and work your azz off to help them with whatever they need. you'll learn more from tagging along with an experienced hunter than any mag or tv show will teach you. just get the basic necessities now, gun, licenses, waders, head to toe camo, maybe a whistle and try to get out with someone before committing to the addiction. X2 on the purple... and ducks only die when hit with 3.5" magnums! welcome to the life and good luck. oh yeah, you will very likely fall in the lake at some point, dont let this deter you!
