I am thinking about buying one. I know several countries have made them but which one is the best and why. Any help would be good. Thanks

Get the Romanian SAR, it will be one of the least expensive but is built very well. Paying more will get you a nicer fit and finish but the gun won't work any better. Plus it's an AK, it's not supposed to be real pretty.

Ive owned many AK's IMO the best are bulgarian built on milled receivers. Prob my favorite stamped would be a Chinese Norinco. And the best looking would prob be a Yugo. The best value is a Romanian.

I cannot improve on this response. AKs simply work, and work simply. Bulgarian manufactured seem to be the most desirable, but at the end of the day, they all do the same thing.

I just bought a Romanian under folder. I took it out and shot about 75 rounds thru it. It jammed 10-25 times. I even changed mags. I got it home and while cleaning it I found the bolt had some "grease" on it. I hope next time it doesn't jam. What are yall's thoughts??

Century Romanians have had some issues in the past...

I bought a Yugo M70 underfolder and I could not be happier with it. It is more accurate than I expected in my wildest dreams, functions perfectly, folds up neatly and stores perfectly under the seat of my truck.

Just for comparison purposes (some folks are still charging Obama prices), I got my Yugo for $430 plus shipping. Shop around, and you can find good deals!

And you'll love an AK. Dead simple, reliable, and plenty of knockdown power for anything in Texas. I've killed piles of pigs with a 7.62 x 39. It is the basic ballistic equivalent of a .30-30...

It's a thick shipping grease, any new AK should be cleaned of all shipping grease for proper function.

Yes, it's a must. My Yugo had grit and junk all over it when I first got it. I stripped it and cleaned it in the parts washer...

I have a Romainian SAR 1, its reliable and fairly accurate. I think the yugos are better as far as quality but depends on what you want to spend on one.

I have a Maddi AK-47. I think its egyptian you can see the mill marks on it. Has always run flawless never any problems, darn good shooter also.

I'm not all that familiar with all the different makes, but I like mine.

Bartender, bring me anything except brake fluid, cause I don't plan on stopping!

also depending on who built the gun (century arms , Lancaster etc) and when the parts kit was imported the parts kit . The barrel may or may not be chrome lined and romaks are cheaper but the wasr 10's had issues canted sights , mag wobble etc . yugo'a are better built not much more. I have had a bunch of these rifles the two best shooters i have had is a bulgy ak74 and mak 90 norinco

Well cleaning did the trick, shoots great. I was amazed at how easy it was to break down and clean. Love the fold under stock. Even clears the magazine. I think it's gonna be a fun gun to have. Just gotta buy more bullets. LOL
