Also what gun and loads do you hunt with? I use a Remington model 1100 semi auto 12 gauge with heavy dove loads number 8. I average about 5 birds per box of shells.

A limit will run me 20-25 shells. One limit last year I did with 17 shells. It was opening morning and I was in and out with a limit in 40 minutes or so.

Previous seasons it would take a bunch more. So many more I'm embarassed to actually put the number down.

Oh ya, I shoot a yildiz O/U with (dont laugh) what ever target loads are cheapest at walmart. Typically 100 rounds for $20 some odd dollars.

The doves/shell question is kind of a trick because people assume it has everything to do with shooting skill. It has a lot to do with it but it also has to do with your location and number of birds. There are some spots where the birds just don't like to get very close...others they get in your face. Obviously the close birds will net you in with greater numbers of doves/shots.

Marc is correct. However, my correllation was for the same exact location that had birds, I just sucked at hitting them .

Mine was definitely a lack of skill. The video and BB gun practice helped my clay and wing shooting immensely.

I think if you really really wanted to you could...assuming you are a halfway decent shot really it would just come down to shot selection. Might take you a bunch of hunts and you would probably kill less birds for the sake of perfect shooting. Honestly doesnt sound too fun to me.

I have come close. I do better off putting one shell in at a time, so I take my time. Most of the time it is just spray and pray though.

I cant remember the magazine but it was a texas hunting magazine i read that stated the average hunter kills 3 dove per a box of shells.

A box should put me at the limit sometimes fewer.

Most times, it is a limit with just under a box. I have done the 15 birds with 15 shots 4 times.

I never shoot more than two boxes of shells per hunt. Use a Remington Wingmaster/full choke

I try to get 7 doubles and a single to save money on shells.

I'm not that good, 30-40 shells for a limit i'd say.

National average is claimed to be somewhere around 1 for 7 or just over 3 birds per box. That is an average! That means for all you guys that have responded so far, there are guys out there that are shooting more than a box per bird lol.

what yall have said is true. if the birds are really thick i can shoot my limit with about 2 boxes of shells. but last season it was taking me 3-4 boxes to get my limit. lol

All depends on how I'm hunting them... if it's with the Mojo's and they are coming in like ducks landing on a stock tank... I don't miss too often. If it's just fly by shots on a fenceline where some are in range and others might not be... it can take me a couple boxes or close to it. Either way... small price to pay to have fun.
