I have been reading on this and I have found mixed responses. Anyone tried both with different results?

I crimp my AR loads with Lee factory crimp die. It works well whether the bullet has a cannelure or not. I feel that the crimping helps to increase consistency and reduce runout when running rounds through the progressive press.

I'd like to hear some opinions on this too, some swear by it while others swear its useless.

Only ftf out of my AR has been on uncrimped rounds. I crimp them all with a lee factory crimp die. doesn't take long as an extra step. 9$ is cheap insurance and it doesn't take that long to do. Never had a problem since. To each his own I guess.

This is my first year with an AR but I do not crimp. After 1500 rounds I have yet to see a problem. I am plenty satisfied with my custom 204 shooting .2 groups with my present reloading techniques.

6-700 rnds uncrimped through mine until I had one that pushed back into the case. Had a few more after that. Started crimping and never had the problem again. Not a big deal at the range or shooting Pdogs or whatnot; but who knows when you are gonna really need that round that ftf's. using new brass everytime may make this less likely, but that's not really reloading.

I have shot ARs for over 25 years and NO, I do not crimp anything I put in them. If you are properly resizing your brass there is no need. Crimping is military application. Finding crimped ammo for ARs on the firing line of National Match competition is non existent.

Thanks for all the replies. I guess I will pick up a Lee crimp die and give it a try.

Recently picked up some bulk once fired brass, one round had the bullet pushed into the case and an unfired primer. I've seen this before on non-crimped loads. I use the Lee collet crimp and add just a touch of crimp on the cannelure if it has one.
BTW, the first time I found one the hard way, it cost me a new stem in my FL sizing die. By the time you feel something is not right the decap pin has already broken off from riding down the ogive of the bullet inside the case. I inspect all brass more carefully now.
