There was a post some time back about this very same subject. If you do a search you should be able to find it. I'd do it for you but I hate the search functionality on this website; I can never get it to work for me the way I want it to.

go slow and gradual.Start off at a distance and close the gap a little at a time while trying to keep him/her focused on a bumper or something else.Let them associate the sound of a shot with something fun,like a retrieve.

No problem. If your in Waco.... I guess that is not far from Lockhart. If you are ever in my area let me know. I can show you what I did. Mine was also 2 when we got over this. I got enought land and ponds to work the dogs. FYI...I am NOT a professinal and I can only show you what worked for me.
