What would you say the "normal" sized GSP is?
My parents have a 3 year old Female and she is about 60-65 lbs. She isn't over weight, she's just a big dog.
My 11 month female is several inches shorter at the shoulders and only weighs about 40-45 lbs. I realize when she gets a little older, she will fill out and gain a little weight, but she seems like she is a small girl.
Basically, I'm just wondering if my girl is a runt or if my parent's dog is just a giant.
Thanks.

My 7 year old male is 85 lbs. without an ounce of extra fat on him.
My 1.5 year old female is around 60 lbs., and she is skinny like most young, hyper GSP.

I wouldn't worry about her being smaller. Easier to handle. Less food smaller poo. I don't see a down side to her size.
Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden. Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

OP, your dog is about normal. My pups sire is 75 pounds and hes supposed to be a little bigger than most. The dam was 65 which is about right. I've never heard of one being 85 pounds ,but i dont doubt it. they eat like horses.

my 1 yr old male is probably only about 50 pounds. I like his small size though. Both his parents were small field trial dogs. both champions too.

I have three and they are all different size, weight, color, and body types. That is what I like about the breed.

A buddy's got 2 females. One 65, and one 40. The little one can keep up with Pointers.

Mine is 95 but we are not entirely sure she is 100% GSP. She is a Great Dog though!

www.akc.org/breeds/german_shorthaired_pointer/index.cfmAccording to the akc breed standard your dog is on the small side, but still within the breed standard, as according to them a female gsp should weigh between 45 and 60 pounds with the males slightly bigger at 55 to 70 pounds Not that it really matters as long as she is a good dog.

My 7 year old female is 40 lbs. and will keep up with any pointer still. You just can't see the tail in the tall grass.

I'm not at all upset about her small size. I like the fact that she is smaller. Just haven't seen another GSP as small as she is. Wish the smaller size meant she would eat less food Can't wait until dove season gets here! It will be her first time to really go "hunting"! I don't get to play with quail or pheasant much, so she is mainly going to be a dove and duck dog. I'm pretty stoked though, she likes ducks, unlike my parents GSP. She was playing fetch with redheads and pintails at 4 months!
