i have found out that you cant buy a non-resident license in kansas unless you own land there, and something like you have to sign up for a license there and there is a chance you might not get it. does this sound right?

Sounds like somebody doesn't want you in Ks!!!! whistle
Anybody can buy a hunting license for Ks. BUT, if you are wanting to hunt deer, you must apply for it. It is a draw state. The draw is already over for this year.(April 1 - April 30) But you can go to Ks web site and see if they have any left over tags available. They went on sale a couple weeks back and is a first come first serve. Also, Ks is broke up into units. There may or may not be any tags for the unit you wish to hunt. But if you want to hunt upland birds or turkeys, you are good to go as long as you have taken a hunters ed class. That is a requirement to obtain a hunting license.

The tags are cheaper if a non-resident owns 80 or more acres in Kansas. It's a tag called "hunt own land permit" but anyone can put in for the Kansas draw. Sqiggy is right, there were several left over tags in several different units when they went on sale a couple weeks ago that anyone can buy on a first come basis. Good luck.
