Sorry to the Mods if this is in the wrong section.
The Most Sweeping Gun Ban Ever Introduced In Congress; McCarthy Bill Bans Millions More Guns Than The Clinton Gun Ban Saturday, February 24, 2007 On Feb. 14, 2007, Representative Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.) introduced H.R. 1022, a bill with the stated purpose, “to reauthorize the assault weapons ban, and for other purposes.” McCarthy’s verbiage warrants explanation. Presumably, what she means by “assault weapons ban” is the Clinton Gun Ban of 1994. Congress allowed the ban to expire in 2004 for multiple reasons, including the fact that federal, state and local law enforcement agency studies showed that guns affected by the ban had been used in only a small percentage of crime, before and after the ban was imposed.
With the nation’s murder rate 43% lower than in 1991, and the re-legalized guns still used in only a small percentage of crime, reauthorizing the Clinton Gun Ban would be objectionable enough. But McCarthy’s “other purposes” would make matters even worse. H.R. 1022 would ban every gun banned by the Clinton ban, plus millions more guns, including:
• Every gun made to comply with the Clinton ban. (The Clinton ban dictated the kinds of grips, stocks and attachments new guns could have. Manufacturers modified new guns to the Clinton requirements. H.R. 1022 would ban the modified guns too.)
• Guns exempted by the Clinton ban. (Ruger Mini-14s and -30s and Ranch Rifles; .30 cal. carbines; and fixed-magazine, semi-automatic, center-fire rifles that hold more than 10 rounds.)
• All semi-automatic shotguns. (E.g., Remington, Winchester, Beretta and Benelli, used for hunting, sport shooting, and self-defense. H.R. 1022 would ban them because they have “any characteristic that can function as a grip,” and would also ban their main component, called the “receiver.”)
• All detachable-magazine semi-automatic rifles-including, for example, the ubiquitous Ruger 10/22 .22 rimfire-because they have “any characteristic that can function as a grip.”
• Target shooting rifles. (E.g., the three centerfire rifles most popular for marksmanship competitions: the Colt AR-15, the Springfield M1A and the M1 “Garand.”)
• Any semi-automatic shotgun or rifle an Attorney General one day claims isn’t “sporting,” even though the constitutions of the U.S. and 44 states, and the laws of all 50 states, recognize the right to use guns for defense.
• 65 named guns (the Clinton law banned 19 by name); semi-auto fixed-magazine pistols of over 10 rounds capacity; and frames, receivers and parts used to repair or refurbish guns.
H.R. 1022 would also ban the importation of magazines exempted by the Clinton ban, ban the sale of a legally-owned “assault weapon” with a magazine of over 10 rounds capacity, and begin backdoor registration of guns, by requiring private sales of banned guns, frames, receivers and parts to be conducted through licensed dealers. Finally, whereas the Clinton Gun Ban was imposed for a 10-year trial period, H.R. 1022 would be a permanent ban.
Please be sure to contact your U.S. Representative and urge him or her to oppose H.R. 1022!

Id be scared as, if they bring in that law, New Zealand will be the only place in the world with good Gun Laws.
Isnt George Bush hanging out heaps with the english and Australian Prime Ministers. They are probably saying how good gun bans are to him, and to do it.

Everyone that feels strongly against these bans should take time to send their representative and congress people an email letting them know how the people that put them there feel .Only takes a couple of minutes!

yeah Becox, thats what you need to do.
Dudes, why no one concerned about this? Is it because you Hunt mainly and use bolt actions? If they ban Semi Autos it effects all Hunters and they will wack other stuff on top of the Ban. Like making you have a "Genuine Reson" for even owning a Bolt-Action.
I dont know what percentage of Americans Shoot/Hunt (10 percent?). May be wrong it a guess of how many have an interest. But Non- Shooters and Anti Gun people must far out way Gun Owners.
Im only judging from what Australia did (same as those proposed laws), I dont know Texas law, just looking out for you guys to be prepared. Politicians make Fast knee jerk decisions, then you can never turn back, EVER.

I agree: That is troubling to me also that there are many in our ranks who feel that AR type rifles have no place in hunting, and that is exactly the arguement the anti's are hoping for.
Many use bolt rifles and feel that it wouldn't effect them at all to have semi's banned.
Well these people are sadly living in a dream world to expect the anti's to stop at that.
I feel that too many are willing to use this fact as a compromise, and with the belief that once they are banned it will take the pressure off for a long while.
You people who believe that giving up part of your rights is going to get the pressure off, need to think seriously about what you are about to agree to.
Once you give up a freedom, you will not ever get it back!
My biggest fear is I will live to see strict gun laws inacted, taking away a part of a freedom I fought in a war to defend.
But I guess they are hoping that by taking away a little at a time that old cogers like me will eventually pass on, and the newer generation won't miss something they never had!
The crosshairs are centered and they are prepared to pull the trigger on all gun owners period, and right now just a wound will satisfy them, with a killing shot to be rendered later on down the road.

Shotgun, Rifle, and a Pistol !!!That's really all you need to survive. As long as they let me own: 1- 12 gauge shotgun 1- .30-06 rifle 1- .45 pistol I'll be A-OK !!!! As far as Congressmen and Senators go, we voted them in to make tough decisions for us, so let's just sit back and let them do the job we hired them to do. I really hate it when people start complaining about a job they would'nt do themselves. At the end of the day, we just need to have more people with common-sense running for public office. Sadly today, the United States of America is in short supply of common-sense in the political arena!!!! But instead of always complaining about what's going on around you, just go ahead and run for public office. So you can actually try to make a difference, rather than just complain all the time!!!!!

I don't think I would call it sweeping. It is basically the Brady/Clinton from years past. This is what happens every time Democrats outnumber Republicans, in the house. There are some new added twists, but all in all it's us the lawful arms holder that gets the mighty shaft in the cazoo. By the way, Republican Presidential hopeful Rudy G, is also on ths ban wagon. Sadie get your guns, ammo, clips and other outlawed crap now, before it's too late. I am starting to think, if we keep going this route for 2 long, we will be like Canada and "their" gun laws. It sucks to be us

Don't foreget Pres. Bush said he'd sign a new AW ban if it came to his desk. I hope that post a few places up was a joke "let me own"?? If there is a new ban it sure won't sunset in 10 years.

Yep: Over two hundred years of freedom to bear arms and now it's down to "let me own"! They'll let you own it alright...Just as long as you don't get caught with it, or long enough to turn it in, and become an instant felon if you don't! typical of how sheep react when they say don't complain!
