I'm putting out 6 moultrie 30 gal. feeders for the first time. Been using 5 gal. feeders and the coons would destroy them getting to the corn. These feeders have 1 1/4 inch legs and i'm wondering if the hogs can or will bend the legs to tip them over. I hate to spend addl $ for fences if not necessary. What do you think?

Yes, the hogs can bend the legs if they are hungry enough. also if you have cattle they will snap the legs. go with a beefed up after market leg IMO. Heck we use black fire pipe for ours, I know its overkill but I have peice of mind!

if they are the plastic hoppers instead of the actual metal barrels then no, the hogs will not bend the legs. The plastic barrel will rip above where the plastic angled piece goes in before the leg gives. End result will be a feeder on the ground though.

Using metal barrels and putting 2 1/2 inch pvc on each leg to try to keep the coons from climbing them. Had one coon stand and look at me as I walked up and he was almost as big as me.

drive a piece of rebar in the ground at an angle at each leg location, then just slip the leg over the rebar, I had several feeders knocked over before doing this, never had one knocked over since. I use 18" pcs and drive them in close to a foot and put the legs on the remaing.

I use the same feeders at some locations ands all you need to add is T- post and strap them to the legs.

Same here except i use an 18 inch piece of 1/2 pipe and drive it in the ground at an opposite angle from my leg. Then i use bailing wire to secure it to the leg. I used to use t posts but i didnt like them sticking up. Now i only have 4-6 inches sticking up. As mentioned above rebar will work too.

We use T posts. Drive them into the ground at the same angle as your feeder legs and wire the legs to the t posts. We tried the opposite angle approach, but the hogs were so big they just bent the legs above the post. No problems since then

Been using t-posts on lease of my dad's in louisiana to protect from those monster hogs, works great. if you use the plastic barrels make sure, and empt them after the season or when you are through hunting and pull the battery, or you will burn your motor up if any moisture gets to the corn
avid deer hunter that is disable but God has still blessed me.
