Was doing a little varmint hunting last weekend and was literally driven out by ticks. In a matter of a just a few minutes, I picked at least 10 ticks off me. Decided it just wasn't worth it.
How do you guys keep em off you?

Sulphur dusted on your clothes at the cuff of your pants, and around the waist is what we'd do as kids. It's been a long time since I had any problems with ticks though. Perhaps it may be time for a Hartz collar for ya?

Seen some stuff yesterday at BPS in Grapevine, was some kind of cord or collar you could put on you clothes. Other than that, maybe rub some rosemary on your self or clothes before you go out.

Lots of deet. The concentrated stuff in the little can. I also wear pants tucked into knee high boots. Hot as heck, but it keeps out the chiggers and ticks.

i finally kicked my tick habit. combination of deet on my skin and permethrin spray on my boots, socks, pant legs, etc.. the permethrin kills/repels them on your clothes and the deet kills them on your skin. at $8 a bottle for each, it was a bit steep, but my 6 year old had a huge fit over easter when a tick got on her and those "medicines" were the only reason she would get out of the truck for fear of ticks. good for me it works too... normally, i get half a dozen ticks while filling feeders, but the last two trips i have been free of ticks.
Stuff my dad said in the deer blind
"I can dive deeper and come up drier" "did you do that?"

Sounds like a pretty bad infestation... I have never had that many ticks on me in the 15 years I have been hunting. I had the most this past year and that was only two ticks.

I use a spray that I get from work, it's got deet in it and works great. I'll tell ya right now, you sure don't want none of that Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, or Lyme's disease. I had the RMS fever. I turned 21 years old in the hospital, with fever of 106*, and the worst dreams I ever had. It was bad stuff!
Mmmm Hmmm

I use deet for the most part but Gummibear is right about the sulfer dust. You can spread it around camp and it will keep the ticks and chiggers out.
Don't have that problem much when fishing though.

Do you use the poor on on the injectable? Since the fire ants got bad we don't hardly have any ticks.

Get the 100% DEET, it comes only in a small pocket sized bottle. That stuff is like having a force field around you. Also, keep it away from glass.

chiggers were so bad in my grandparents back yard when I was a kid we got dusted with an old sock filled with Sulfer. About once every 3 years my grand father would put some sulfer in a burlap sack and tie it behind his lawn mower and drag it around the yard.
Didnt mean to highjack the post but if you have problems with them around your camp sight it works.
If you have land that is LOADED with ticks its time for drastic measures and a controlled burn is the best bet to really put a hurting on them.
they make tic GATORS that you put over your boots that are about 5" high and keep them from crawling up your legs, they have worked for me along with 100%Deet bug spray on my clothes.

Glass? Why? [/quote]
I have not seen it on glass, but I know it eats holes in plastic. It probably does the same to glass.

Get yourself some powdered sulfer, put it an old sock (no holes) and then dust around your pants bottom, top of boots/socks and waist line. Will also keep out redbugs/chiggers! Good Luck from the H.O.T. of TEXAS!!! J.D.

Flea/tick collars around your boots, one around your waist, one on each wrist, one around the neck and ya might want to stuff a few more in your pockets.

Since the fire ants got bad we don't hardly have any ticks. Same thing happened at our lease. The ticks were so bad you would see areas that looked like the ground was moving there were so many ticks crawling around. Then the fireants moved in and the ticks disappeared. I haven't been bitten by a tick in 10 years. Of course the fireants became a problem, but we keep them in check around camp with Ortho, and they seem to have generally moderated their aggressiveness over the years too. It used to be you had to get to a downed dove fast or they would be covered with fireants. That hardly ever happens now. So, pray for fireants!
"We could say they spend like drunken sailors, but that would be unfair to drunken sailors, because the sailors are spending their own money." Ronald Reagan

Permethrin treatment on clothes. Protection up to six weeks, even with regular washings. Here's the label off a couple of the Sawyer Products. Soak Sawyer Permethrin Soak Label Spray Sawyer Permethrin Spray Label Tractor Supply (and probably every other feedstore) has 10% solution for $18. You do the math. Be careful. Just get the stuff that has only permethrin in it. High Deet insect repellant on skin. Deet will melt plastics and finishes so be careful where you spray (and overspray) and what you touch.
