1. Anything over seas, except for Red Stag in New Zealand.
2. Quail/Pheasant
3. Alligator

I kinda enjoy high fences, but you have to go in with a different mind-set.

About hogs with dogs.....I would have agreed about pitbulls til Friday night. A buddy of mine just got some hog dogs. They are mutts, 1/4 pit with some hound in them too. Both males, they are actually brothers. Both are very gentle dogs and both rode on 1 four wheeler for hours as fast as 50mph without jumping off or acting dumb. We finally got on some hogs at 1am....turned the dogs and watched them go! they came alive and worked well....if one of them hadn't got his vest hung in the fence, they would have been successful i bet.

i do find it interesting that so many people say high fenced hunt, especially those that have never been on one.
you are certainly entitled to your opinions, after all, this is a free forum.

but i bet the tune would change substantially if there was an invite to come hunt for free.

If I had the option of HF vs low, I'd rather hunt on a low fence. However, I have hunted a HF place before. Native whitetail, 700 acres, thick with brush, cedars, mesquite. It was really tough hunting, and on only 700 acres. A couple thousand acres under HF may as well be free range. I think its just so they can somehow say they are "better" hunters.

Glad to see that I'm not out in left field when I have no interest in bear hunting or African game. Sheep are about the same category as raccoons to me, they may as well be varmints, not to be hunted, but shot on sight.

No real big interest in bird/duck hunting either except quail. But I think that's mostly cuz I'm not to hepped up on shotguns.

I didn't have much interest in goose hunting until I went and was put on some birds. Plan on making the Knox City trip a yearly thing now.

I don't mind hunting HF, but I know to call it what it is whether it be LF or HF in terms of the actual "hunt". Can kill livestock like deer inside or outside the fence, the fence just involves more work to keep things in check.

just out of curiousity. THe people that said high fence hunting is BS, have you ever actually hunted on a high fence ranch?

what I think... is that people have a pre conceived notion about high fence hunts... do you really think the deer are that different on an 8000 acre high fence ranch, than an 8,000 acre low fence ranch?

also.... for my own curiosity... what's up with the hate to hunt in africa?

Why do so many of you hate Africa?

For me it's not "hate," I plan on going within the next year or so, just to see the animals. I have zero desire or need to kill the big animals. Watching them and leaving them to roam is all I need. The same is true for bears, all of the cat family, and lots of the other big animals or those with low population numbers, or any of the sheep/goats. While mountaineering, I have sat and fed peanut butter crackers to mountain goats. They are amazing animals and the thought of killing them really makes me sad to even think about it.

I really wouldn't care for an African hunt either. I don't have anything against it, it just doesn't interest me.

I'd like to do Africa one day, however, I have no desire to hunt the following:

1) Giraffe - the only giraffe I'd like to shot is the Toy's R Us guy.

2) Zebra - a painted horse, just does not appeal to me

3) Elephant - already got a pair of elephant boots. Now, if it was a nuisance issue then I'd reconsider.

If it isn't something that provides a meal at home, or considered a pest or nuisance, I have no desire whatsover to shoot it.

With that in mind, I enjoy shooting anything that's considered a pest or nusiance (hogs, coyotes, etc) about as much as shooting something for a meal. And it's even better when it satisfies both needs.

I have no "hate" for Africa. If I'm going to drop that kind of money there are critters right here on the good old North American continent that I would rather hunt. Most of the African plains game can be found here somewhere without the need to go all the way to Africa. And I wouldn't hunt them here either.

I'm with you on all this, and I'll add the Rhino's to that list. I just couldn't kill something that can actually be counted... just seems too rare.

as far as the plains game goes... Kudu, impala, gemsbock, sable, roan, nyala etc... bring it on.

plus my "holy grail" I want to drop the hammer on is a Bongo. from what I hear, it is an extremley challenging hunt.

I dont hate africa hunts or HF hunts they just dont interest me, on HF if its 8000 or so acres I guess that would be like LF I dont know as I could never afford to spend the kind of money it takes to hunt a HF area and take care of the little ranch I have

I wish more folks didn't like to hunt high fence ranches. Then there wouldn't be so many applying for the WMA hunts like the Chaparral. The Chaparral WMA is a high fenced ranch

Not sure never thought about those to much. My initial reaction is that is a little bit different because it isn't something that is on a timer and you would still have to pattern the deer to a certain extent.

I always hear the feeder timer argument, but I have never had a deer show up when the thing goes off. Rabbits, doves, and squirrels seem to show up for the dinner bell, but deer seem to come at their leisure.

I think feeders are set to throw corn more so during natural feeding times (morning and evening), than programming deer to come at a certain time...

I'm looking forward to hunting this year... It's on a high fence place, and all the deer have remote controlled shock collars (like all high fence places), and all you have to do is select the deer you want from the catalog, and they will activate that shock collar until the deer comes out. Then you shoot him.

You know.... typical high fence hunting. shocked

Turkeys. Can't stand mixing sitting still in the blazing heat with ticks, chiggers and fire ants. The last time I went will be the last time. Now during the fall deer season all bets are off...

I watch deer feeding 400yds from where our feeders are located. They take notice of when it goes off. These don't sprint over there but they will walk at a steady pace and feed along the way. Also have video (wish I had something that would transfer 8mm to digital on either of my comp) that had bucks & does busting out in a full sprint and sounding like they were going to tear the woods down b/c the feeder went off.

and here's some LF livestock. Out trying to shoot some coyotes we had been seeing in the lower pasture and was sitting in the truck with the 15m/cp cyclops on duty. Had the old school Johnny Stewart w/ cottontail in distress wailin' away and all these flippin' deer know is that there is a truck in the pasture, and no one has fed them. So all they did was circle the truck, blowing at it until I got out and walked over and gave them what they wanted so they would shut up. If you drive out in the evenings on the 4wheeler you can expect to be met by 20-30 of them waiting on a free meal. Would be like shooting fish in a barrel, especially during rut, so we go elsewhere to hunt.

so you intentionally look for the worst hunting spot on your place?
