I just saw a Blue Indigo snake in my backyard. It was over 5 ft. long and about 2 1/2" in diameter. Good thing my wife didn't see it or I would have to have called 911.

I have seen a few in S Texas and in Mexico. Pretty cool snake, and they get BIG too.

True story, when I was in the Border Patrol, I was on a county road northwest of Roma and a Blue Indigo was stretched out across the road, it's head was in one bar ditch and the tail in the other. Probably THE biggest snake I've ever seen.

They are harmless, don't mess with it. Supposedly they go after rattlesnakes among other critters.

I guess maybe those are what we call a Racer?

When I was 16 I saw one going across the Farm To Market road just down from the house that stretched across one edge to the other. I stopped to see if I could find him, but he was long gone.

We had one that lived under the coop and ate our chicken eggs. I never botherd him because I never saw a rat or rattler.

Red racers are cool too. The only one I ever bothered was one that got up in a mesquite tree and was going after a bird's nest. Momma bird was frantic and chirpin' for all she was worth tryin' to hover and get the snake away from the nest. I pushed it off the limb with a 6' T-post. Snake hit the ground and scooted off, I guess Momma and babies were fine....I hope.
