Ok, so I was wanting to know if anyone knew where I could find information on hunting mulies here in Texas on public land? I'd really like to see if I could do it somewhere in West Texas since that is more conducive to spotting and stalking. Thanks for the help!

Sierra Diablo or Elephant mountain is the way to go.

Do have to draw for those places? I'd like to take a friend, and not go on my own.

Those places are part of the drawn hunts. Your buddy and you can apply on the same card. Right now only the area descriptions are on the website. But give it a few days and the website will be updated with the 2010-11 hunt opportunities. https://www2.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/h...p®ion=28

The 2010-2011 Special Drawing Hunt Booklets were being mailed out last week Friday and for those who had applied for any hunts last year will automatically receive the draw book this year if you had not changed your mailing address. Any of you that would like a draw hunt booklet, they can be obtained at any of the District Law Enforcement/Game Warden offices http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/warden/office_locations/ if you live close to any of those locations above. If not, we can mail you a booklet if you give your name and mailing address.

So is there no way you can't hunt mulies on public land without going through the draw? Getting drawn for one of those hunts is pretty bad odds.

That's pretty much it. Texas is not much of a public hunting land state, especially in mule deer range. Most Texans plan their public Mule Deer hunting for New Mexico and Colorado. I sent you a pm with some suggestions.

I'm not 100% positive but if you don't mind driving, check the Panhandle region. I think the area around Lake Meredith (NE of Amarillo) is public and I know they take good mulies from there.

Have you heard any details on what part of the park is good? I just would like some general guidance. Also does anyone have any insights for hunting mulies in that part of the state?

I'm not sure on the park itself but I can tell you that I've seen good mulies all around that area. N, S, E, and W. I believe they have a parks and wildlife office for that specific area so I'm sure they could give a little insight and probably some topo's that would be of help. As far as hunting them goes, if there is a food source in the area, they are fairly predictable, especially in October if you can bowhunt them. Lots off glassing then plan your stalk. Hope some of this helps and good luck.
