Crossbows are kind of like scooters or fat chicks.
They may be fun to ride, but you definitely don't want anybody seeing you!
I don't really have a solid argument against them, I just think they're silly. I always envision the geeks doing dungeons and dragons type role playing at the park with someone who would buy one. Hey I have a scooter and My wife isn't small any more and It's to late to swap You'll just have to watch!

ok basiclly it goes like this, say you have been hunting somewhere that is open to any one to hunt. But it is archery only.there is maybe between 20-30 people hunting this area, and you all have always had good luck. then they decide one day hey lets make it where x-bow hunters can hunt this area as well. Next thing you know you have 80-100 people everywhere shooting cross bows cause they have never learned to shoot a regular bow and they figured what the hell how hard could it be to shoot a cross bow. Thats why us bow hunters cherish or bow season cause of the low preasure on the deer and not so many hunters. Right here!!!! I can only assume that you are talking about public, unless you have 80 - 100 people on your lease.

Thats why us bow hunters cherish or bow season cause of the low preasure on the deer and not so many hunters. What if they did away with the archery-only season? It's all hunting, so why not just have one big season? Why should bow-hunters get any advantages? Wait...Maybe we should have a x-bow ONLY season....2 weeks ahead of the archery-only? Point is, it's all hunting. Run what you brung. Go hunt and have fun. And BTW - most of the public areas still do not allow x-bows so that's complete BS. where in the hell did i say anything about public hunting all i did was give you a scenerio of the what if

I'm interested in knowing why crossbow hunting is frowned upon by bow hunters. What's the big deal? The same reason that traditional hunters make fun of guys shooting compound bows.. They call them bows with training wheels. Basically not in the same league! I think of a crossbow as a rife that shoots an arrow.

But then again, I won't watch rifle hunting either.

ya know...I'm pretty sure an old-timer will chime in about it being the same BS similar to when compound bows started being the norm. Many Year's ago a Ture archer had to draw a recurve bow capable of shootin a broadhead at least 7/8" in width over 150 yds to legally hunt in this state! The same reason that traditional hunters make fun of guys shooting compound bows.. They call them bows with training wheels. Basically not in the same league!
just sayin'

They are different and shouldn't be compared. But they are all legal so let's respect each others choice.

I don't mind crossbow hunters, but I don't think that it should be allowed during bow season. TPWD seems to think thats ok now. I believe that the only exception should be for disable people. I will be buying a cheap crossbow to hunt with for bow season this year because I broke my back a few days ago and wont be able to pull back my compound, or recurve.

What's all the grief about crossbows anyway? I mean come on, crossbows are okay as far as I'm concerned. It still has to do with limbs, strings, arrows and broadheads. Crossbows have been around forever. Not much more advanced than the modern day fancy compound bows which are now so small and compact. Not to mention the fact that you can dang near pull them back with 2 fingers and hold them at full draw forever with their advanced let off. To me it's all about advanced technology anyway. If you wanna get back to basics and talk about not "cheating", don't hunt feeders, food plots, don't use attractants and by all means, don't use game cams. Shoot recurve bows and black powder rifles while stalking. The way I see it, if it's legal, it's legal. I love technology myself....whatever makes it easier, right?

No Feeders, food plots, I even hunt with my eyes closed to make it harder! If a man wants to hunt with a crossbow more power to him, but that is not bow hunting! Don't put him in the same class as bow hunters, the same as traditional and compound shooters are not in the same league at all!!

i dont understand why you would want to use a crossbow. I cant use them when i shoot 3D competions but some one who is handicapped can, they should be for people who want to go bow hunting but cant cause they cant pull a bow back or they have one arm missing Not much difference than what the recurve shooters were saying when the compounds hit the market. When all the fussing is over with it really came down to one side thinking it gives an advantage over the other. When it comes to hunting having as much advantage as you can over your prey is never a bad thing. I shoot much tighter groups with a cross bow than I do my compounds and I shoot much tighter groups with my compounds than I do my recurves. The one and only reason I don't deer hunt with a cross bow is the noise, out here in West TX your going to have to take longer shots and string jump becomes a real problem, my compounds are much quieter. With that said when I really want to enjoy a day of bow hunting I break out the recurves and go chase jackrabbits, you hit a running jack with a recurve and it better than taking a PY buck. Let the hunters shoot what they want we need as many of them as we can get, plus it's a great tool for getting kids and beginner archers into the field.

i truly think it takes skill to be able to shoot a bow and be a good shot. a croos bow takes no skill to look thru a scope and squeeze a trigger. I agree 100% but I don't see where giving a hunter an extra advantage is a problem, if you chose not to use that advantage no problem, but I wouldn't apply my standard to others.

Holy Smokes, I feel like I'm watching Jerry Springer! This topic is going down the toilet pretty fast! But it sure is good to see how everybody feels about their method of hunting. We all have our own opinions, I think they should make all rifle hunting illegal just because I don't like it at all! I doubt that there is anyone more dedicated and into archery as me, been doing it for over forty years and still loving it!

Most non bow hunters on leases in Texas are hunting Hogs with rifles during October anyway. I could care less if those hunters transition to a crossbow. In fact it would be desirable. Crossbows don't go boom.

I really don't see what all the fuss is about. Texas is like, what, 95% privately owned. The other 5% is public huntin in which most places will not allow X-bows in archery season. Sooooooooooo, if you hunt public, you still have your "season" and if you are like most, you belong to a club or lease, in which the head honcho can allow or not allow X-bows. I'm a die hard bow hunter. I hunt private land. This new change does not affect me at all. But, I can now take my son out with me if I want to and not wait till gun season. Tell me what is so wrong with that?? My brother told me last season he was going to get him a X-bow so he could join me in archery season. So far, he hasn't bought one yet and I doubt if he ever will. Have you seen the prices on those things?? If you really want to stir the pot, tell the gun hunters they will only have a 10 day gun season like they do in Ks and other Mid-west states!!!
