My chessie has a chunk missing from her front pad. What can I put on it to help it heal and that she wont lick off? Thanks for any advise.

Clean it once with Hydrogen peroxide . Then I would keep it covered with neosporin. Tape a sock on like Fooshman said so your Chessie can't lick it off.

my $.02 for what it's worth. About $.00000002 with the current administration in office.

Use EMT or just leave it alone. It'll get well in a couple of weeks.

I am with Bill, just leave it alone unless you are hunting her. What did she do to tear her pad? If I have a dog with tender feet (more pronounced in white/pink skinned dogs)I treat their feet with Tuff Pad. It seems to toughen them up for the rocks we have here and west.
Adios,
Gary

EMT Gel is some good stuff, but like said before, just leave it alone & it will heal.

I don't know when or how she did it but it seems to be more on the front vertical face of her main pad. Thanks for the advice.

Nothing you can do... A sock will be torn off and everything else will be licked off.

Pad cuts will heal themselves from the inside out. Just keep an eye on it. It will take some time...

You may want to get an oral antibiotic for at least 10 days...

EMT and keep inside in a kennel. Make it small enough the dog can not stand up and put weight on it.

Just never heard an add on the radio for Retriever Training. That was the funny part, not that is was YOUR business.

I didn't think you were making fun of my business... Thank you But it is odd to hear something like that for sure. Kinda reminded you of Slattery's billboard he had on 291 I think? Can't imagine what that cost.

I don't think Slattery is around much anymore. Nobody has seen or heard from him in years.

You could use "Cut N Heal". It will protect and close the wound and the dog will not lick it off. It is pretty commonly used by ranch vets on cattle, horses, and dogs.

any of your ranch & farm stores shoul have it, if not you can order it from Jeffers or any those outlets. Vets have told me NOT to use peroxide for cuts, better to use iodine soap.

Haven't thought about cut n heal in a long time. I always kept it on hand years ago when I had horses.

Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden.
Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

Thanks,,, I'll get over and get some. Anymore they don't recommend iodine soap either. Too harsh,,, now it's just an antibacterial soap and water.

I found some pics of my dog when she hurt her pads while out dove hunting a couple seasons ago.

Upon application:

Here she is passed out with the socks still on. Gasp! wink
