well i'm getting a new bow tuesday probably, i've had it on lay away at cabelas and am nearing the end of the payment time, so i'm going to purchase the rest of it tuesday....it is already outfitted with sights and an arrow rest/holder, all i have to do is purchase it and then i'll be ready to start hunting with it.

but i have a question on where to target practice and what to target practice with, for days that i can't get out and pay to target shoot, but my idea was take two square hay bails and stack them on top of each other, with the stalks going up and down, as to spread the inside out for later use, to stack up where the stalks are running horizontally and with it being shot at multiple times with the grain going vertically that it would be pushed out enough to shoot with the grain going horizontally.

do you guys think my idea will work until i'm able to purchase a real target?

and if not where can a new bow hunter go to take shots?

hay bales are great ,except one thing most modern compounds almost always shoot all the way through which screws up fletchings academy may still have some relitively in expensive foam targets to put in front of the hay bales. that will slow them down enough. If where you work has a shipping dept.you might find some dense shipping foam, must be dense though are you 'll have above problem.

you will save money in the long run if you go ahead and get a decent target. Arrows aren't cheap!!!

I use large cardboard boxes that I break down flat and sick inside eachother, works really well at stopping my arrows.

I have a bag target that I've had for four years, when it starts getting shot out, I just buy a new cover for it.
