My wife and I were on vacation for a week in Hawaii and the kids were taking care of my homing pigeons. I've worked for over a year to get them trained and homing from long distances. Over the last week something has gotten into their coop and killed all but one! I had 25 or 30 that were ready for heavy training! I'll have to start over with some new squeakers - this is a huge setback to my training plans. Chet and I trained nine of them from his house so he could use them and all that work is down the drain.

It appears that around ten of them were just killed by some neighborhood kids - pulled off head and wings, left the door open which allowed an owl (my guess) to enter the loft the kill the rest. The perps also took all the eggs that were in nests (6-8) and threw them against the house we're building. We called the sheriff, not much he can do. My brood pairs cost me around $250 - not a lot of cash, but the work I've put in training them to home to my coop and getting them accustomed to the remote launchers is now all down the drain.

I'm so disappointed. Sorry for the rant....

On the bright side, I won a Kawasaki Mule in the LSBA raffle!

That will be a huge asset to my set of training tools.

Rant over.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I raise and train my homing pigeons as well. I could not imagine losing the amount of birds that you did after all of your hard work. My biggest enemies are the hawks, but I did lose one of my young pigeons a few days ago. Let me know if you would like to get some more homers. I will have more in a few weeks and we are trapping ferals as well.

I will need some more more young one's. Maybe we can work a deal on that beeper collar.

Thanks!

Got your email this evening Pard. I'll have a look see tomorrow as to how many sqeakers I have ready to go. I'm thinking there may be three or four of the black eagle squeakers ready too. I'll holler tomorrow.

My OWN kids didn't do it..all my kids are adults now, they were just making sure the birds were fed and watered while we were on vacation. There are a few kids in the sub-division that are nothing but trouble. Sheriff says he'll ask around, but they have better things to do than chase down "pigeon killers" and I understand that. We filed a complaint, but I don't expect any results.

Thanks Jimbo, got your email too.

DANG! I hate to hear about this! You had a nice coop going. I hope you are able to get it back to where it was, soon.

Maybe if they do ask around it will at least give the impression it is being investigated and provide a little bit of determent.. Maybe...
