Does anyone have a recommendation on a released bird hunt place within a couple hours of the metroplex that has birds that fly well?

May be a little farther than you want to drive, but we hunt on the LBJ Ranch in Stonewall, Texas. Lots of shooting, no kicking allowed. That's what the flushing dogs are for.

Also try WB Ranch or Quail Ridge Ranch in Glenrose.

Cool picture. I wish I could get another couple of dogs to have the same setup. I would be dead however. I ordered the one I have without telling my wife. I had about a month to break the news, however the right time never came up. The breeder called and left a message he was shipping the pup while I was out of town. My wife called to tell me the "good" news! Ouch... I suggest another dog about every other week and she hasn't expressed so much desire for this. So I have one setter until I find a chink in the armour and then I become HuntsetterII.

I'm wondering if the GSP's had been pointing and they sent in the Lab. Lab just happens to be infront of them now to flush. That Lab knows who did all the work!!

Just a guess!

Just for you skeptics. Sam actually had the point in each of the photos. It doesn't happen all that often. This was two seperate hunts a week apart. Normally happens with a single that was left behind by the very excited, hard running pointers. They get their fair share, trust me. The little girl earns her keep. The other day we were headed back to the truck and the pointers were well out in front. As we walked and talked I look ed down and realized Sam was not at my side. I turned back and all I could see was her tail up in the air 30-40 yards back. As soon as she saw me turn around she flushed the bird and it flew right at us. I couldn't have drawn it up any better.

Just wanted to share this one. Notice they both have a bird in the mouth. Wally has the point here. actually he is just coming back on point. Sam is about to flush the remaining birds. She won't drop that bird. If she does it will be to pick up the other and she'll remember where it is an go back and get it. It's not perfection, but it sure is fun to watch. She brought me two birds at once on this particular hunt on more than one occasion. Life is good!!

now your skating on thin ice there mister. Is it not bad enough that the only gun dog pictures and decorations a person can find are labs? Now they gotta steal all the points on upland birds?

She's not stealing all of them. Just picking up the ones the real players miss.

By the way GR. My kids got me the coolest pueter GSP key ring for my bday. I'll try and find out where they got it.

just about evetyone on here is a Lab guy, so I gotta throw my punches when I can

You have some really good looking dogs....I really dont want to admit it, but I do like that lab also, looks sharp on point.

if I remember correct didnt you say that is not bred as a pointing lab, it just kinda happened?

I have no idea what that little lab was bred for, but she is one whale of a gundawg!! I spent my formative years buying high dollar, highly bred labs and most of them were better educated than I am by the time they were finished. She is by far the best all around dog I have seen and I have no idea what her background is. My biggest concern is finding another one like her when the time comes. I actually bought two Spingers last year to take a little pressure off of her. She wants no part of that. She gets very jealous when she is not getting to do it all. Truth be told, she has me wrapped around her tail.

I called Bobby yesterday. I'm going to try and go in a couple of weeks. Said the birds fly good and he seems like a nice guy! I haven't been out this year and my dog is not happy. I have taken her every two weeks during the season for the past 4 years and she is a little confused. COld weather = birds. Good lookin' Brits you got. Looks like you got your hands full. My buddy runs one and it's a good dog!
