How old? and what do you want to pay.. Don't buy kids binoculars, get the real thing... they came in all sizes and price ranges.

i suggest you get a light weight pair with the best glass your budget can afford.

if the glass is bad, you will spend more time helping them "focus" and them taking yours...

as you can probably guess, i went that route already and paid for my initial choice.

Stuff my dad said in the deer blind

"I can dive deeper and come up drier"
"did you do that?"

Age is a big factor. I bought my sons @ 7 and 5 the Bushnell permafocus binocs. They are the right size and you don't have to focus them. Best glass in the world is no good if barely out of focus. They see better out of them than they do my high dollar pair because they don't have to focus.

Thanks for all your good suggestions. My son is only 12 years old, and I want to spend under $200 on it. I need it waterproof. You know children are all naughty.

Give him your present pair of binoculars. Tell him stories about all the big South Texas deer you've spotted with them. Let him marvel at the pictures of the big elk you took out of Wyoming's Thorofare (binos jauntingly hanging from your neck). He'll be PROUD to inherit Daddy's favorite glass.

Then, YOU order the $1000 alpha binocular you've always drooled over. Let your wife give it to you for Father's Day. The entire family will be happy......

Thanks for the advice. I have seen the Eyeskey 10x25 binoculars carefully yesterday. And I had thought to buy one for my son's birthday.

I did the same thing/ same binocs for my 7 year old- works like a champ and no more resetting the focus when handing them back & forth.
