I just sent off for a C&R license and was wondering if anyone on the forum had one. If you have one what are some of the places that you have found that have the best deals on guns? Do you use your license for discounts from places like Midway USA? Any tips or advice for a new license holder?

I have one, had it for about four years. I have never got any discounts with it. I bought most of my guns off of gunbroker and had them shipped to me. On gunbroker there was a person selling bound log books for your collection for aquiring and diposition of firearms. I got one and its great. Just keep a good record of your firearms. Its not likely you will be investigated but definately dont want to be without good records. I log all of my firearms and C&R guns together. U dont have to, but you do have to track the firearms in ur possesion regardless if C&R or not.

The most important advice when you first get your license is DO NOT SIGN IT! Make a bunch of copies and then file away the unsigned original for safe keeping and future copies. Sign the copies you made in blue ink.

Midway and Brownells both offer nice discounts, be sure to have accounts with them and send them copies referencing your account and requesting the discount.

Check out surplusrifle.com if you haven't already. Lots of great info there including lists of dealers and feedback. Some to start with are AIM Surplus, J&G sales, Classic Arms, Samco, and Southern Ohio Gun. Keep an eye on the relic section on Gunbroker.

+1 to all of this. I saved enough on my first order from Grafs after I got my C&R that the savings paid for my license. Keep a copy in your wallet (unsigned) for when you go to a funshow. Sign up for dealer accounts with Midway, Brownells, Graf and Sons, Natchez, etc. You will not regret it, esp. if you hand load. Welcome to what can turn out to be one of the worst addictions you can ever hope to have! cheers

Curio and Relic (Type 03) license. Lets you purchase older/obsolete firearms ( I believe its designs and firearms that are 50 plus years old excluding F.A.)directly from an importer or dealer for personal collecting purposes only. Most retailers will give you a discount if you have one. I have a definite thing for all things military Mauser.

It also includes modern firearms that rare as well. My book from BATFE has a true russian AK and an original armalite ar-15 listed. Problem is finding them and if and when u do paying for them. (ok so an original russian ak and armalite would be over 50yrs old, but you get my point).

Yup. As long as the design is 50+ years old and it's on that list (and it's a BIG list) then it's eligible.

I've used it alot at Brownell's and midwayUSA. it payed for itself on my first purchase. Here's a post on AR15.com that lists all the vendors that give a C&R discount: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=6&f=14&t=168079

Thanks for all the tips. I mailed my application on June 4 and received my license on June 19 that must be some kind of record. Everything I have read online from people is that it would take 2 months or more with 3 months being the average. Guess I need to start making copies and sending them out.

WOW!!!! That's FAST!! It took me about a month and a half when I got mine a few years ago and I thought that was quick. Good job, and welcome to the club!
