We set out some hog pipes at our lease and we now have pigs hitting the pipes. We don't have any lights on those spots or the ability to really set something out. I do have a strong spotlight but figure that as soon as I light them up they will take off. If I put a colored lens on the spot will that spook them? If I go with the colored lens, will amber (fog) work) or does it have to be red or green to keep from spooking them?

A red LED has worked best for me. In regards to whether or not the amber light works - one way to find out.

I've had very good luck with amber lights on hogs, they seemed completely unaffected by the amber light, plus it's easier for us to see than a red lense.

Go to wal-mart or wherever and buy a box of garden solar lights I think they were about 5bucks a piece. If you put the lights on the legs of your feeders they will give plenty of light for you to see the hogs. If you put them on the ground they work even better but the little critters root them up. I have found that they stay charged pretty well. If they are not bright enough to shoot by you will still be able to see the hogs and hit your spot light.

And to answer your questing I have always used a red light just my personal fav. Everyone has the light color they like to shot with you will find out that hogs are different when it comes to the lights. I have had them run no matter what color I use and other time they never flinch a muscle.

I've always used the RED on my spot light but I have amber on my motion light at the feeder. Now, I have to ask - what is a "hog pipe"? I've never heard of those before.

TxYoteHunter,
Google "hog pipe feeder"
You'll get all sorts of info.
It's basically large diameter pvc pipe with holes drilled in it.

I used the red light tonight and the scampered like crazy. Disheartening, since I just got the sniper hog light.

it doesnt matter what light u use...... ive used em alll.... they run with red, they run with blue.. they run with em all. BUT, ive had em stand their like nothing happened when i put reg. white light on em. Of course ive had em run too. I just like to use the white light because it makes it brighter for me no matter what. I figure u got just as good of a chance for them running with any of the lights, so choose the one u can see the best with.
That or get in a UTV and haul arse after em and shoot em with handguns!!!
