i went to the gun shop today and i believe i had my mind changed from the thompson center to the cz rifle mainly because of the whole single shot thing but the cz is supposed to be a tack driver if anyone has any info on cz rifles it would be appreciated i dont want to make a 600 dollar mistake ( i also looked into shepherd scopes and liked them alot as well)

I have a CZ 550 Safari Magnum and really like it. I see a lot of folks on other forums that have high opinion of the CZ. There are some things a person has to watch for on some models, plastic floor plate and magazine follower, instead of steel, is one I see mentioned. My 550 has the "Luxe" style stock, rounded comb, small Bavarian-style cheek piece.

I like the way it feels when shooting it, because my 550 is in 458 Win.Mag., I am using the same loads in it that I was a Model 77 Ruger that was a full 2 pounds heavier, and the CZ has less felt recoil. I think CZ's are good guns and worth the money.

I have the CZ Varmit .223, with the set trigger you really have a tack driver, I am a Savage fan, but the CZ is really good gun for the money.

I have a cz 550 varmint .22-250. Was a little too heavy for me at first but I put a 23 inch bi-pod on it and love it!

I didn't know wallyworld was in the CZ business..most some of the stores in the Austin area discontinued gun sales. I have noticed some gun co. doing the 7.62x39

What caliber are you loking for in the rifle?

Most of the CZ's I've encountered were .223 Rem. bolt actions and "tack driver" was how they were described. I've never heard anything bad about them either.

Good luck on your decision!!!!

I have a 550 American in 6.5x55 swede. I have had it for 2 years and love it. The set trigger is nice, but I have it adjusted down and don't use that feature much. The wood was very nice and the fit and finish is better that other rifles I looked at in the same price range (including Savage, Ruger and Remington). I especially like the integral sight bases (just like Ruger) so that you don't have a seperate scope base to deal with. I am of the opinion that CZ is a great buy for the dollar in aything they carry, from semi-auto pistols to their shotguns. What caliber are you looking at?

I also have a 550 in 6.5x55 and like it a lot. The stock is a little thick and heavy, but it feels good and really soaks up the recoil. Feels like shooting something between a .223 and .243. Accuracy is under 1" with nearly everything I have shot in it. Worst was 1.25". Good value for the price, although they just had a price increase.

I've been looking for someone who made a bolt action in 7.62 x 39, and found the CZ.

I was thinking about gettin one in this caliber because it would make a good varmint and also use on deer where the .223 is a good varmint rifle it lacks a little as a deer rifle. Both cartridges are about the same when it comes to price of ammo.

I know there are better rounds out there like the 243 etc. but I'm looking at price of ammo and the fact I've already got a gun in that caliber.

Seems like it would be a fun gun to shoot and inexpensive to shoot at that.

Just wondering if anyone has one in a bolt rifle and how is the accuracy?

I've got an SKS in a semi-auto with open sights, but I've always wondered what a good solid bolt action rifle and solid scope mounted, would be for accuracy, with that round? SKS's are great rifles, made to be used as is, and I wouldn't want to make mods on that gun.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

Just some food for thought here, I believe Ruger made the Model 77 in 7.62x39 for a while, but don't know if they still offer it.

Have you paid real close attention to the ballistics of the round? Getting a new rifle is always fun, but I went over to AR and checked out the ballistics, the best they could get, was 2557 fps., out of a custom rifle with a 25 inch barrel, and a 125 gr. bullet. If I remember right, that places it below the 30-30 in power, and the 30-30 is chunking a 150 gr. slug. As I say, a new rifle is always fun, but if I was going to spend the money for a new CZ, I would look to calibers such as the 6.5x55 or the 7x57. I question the 7.62x39's ability to be more than a 150 yard deer c artridge at best. Just my opinion.
