How many of you dip/chew/smoke while you are hunting? Do you think it has any impact on your success?

I chain smoke while hunting I don't "think" it has any effect, at least me and the other smokers on our lease see as many deer as the non smokers.

Dip all the time in the stand. I dip here in TX and I dip when I go to the MidWest. Never seems to bother them either place. I am just really careful about spitting. I will spit in a bottle or just swallow it.

actually, if you use a feeder or bait of somesort, when you bait it out, spit on the ground around it so it will get them conditioned to the smell and then when you are hunting they will used to the smell, if it has any effect anyway. kinda like peeing at the feeder or leaving your clothes there for them to get used to "your" smell.

I have seen my uncle kill more deer with a Cig and a mile long cherry hanging from his mouth while looking through a scope and killing deer.

I once tracked down and destroyed a whole enemy patrol in upper Honduras who was smoking four miles away from me. I've entered more protected areas, beyond top secret, through the smoking area than you'd ever believe. And night operations, Oh my goodness. God invented the smoker for predators like me.

For deer, sure they can smell it. Whether it deters them or not...I don't know.

Hmmm. Well, I can't tell you how many cigarettes I've had to put out to shoot a deer. It's a bad habit and over the last two years I've been struggling to quit completely. Probably not a good thing to do while hunting (or doing anything for that matter), but there are so many variables while sitting in the stand that could affect your success.

Just to clarify, do you rifle or bow hunt? I think it is much more important when you have to get into bow range than sitting 150 yards downwind to get a gun shot. IMO

Ugh...started dipping freshman year of college. I'd like to think I only do it when I'm working on homework, hunting, fishing, or driving. Unfortunately I'm always driving somewhere to either do homework, hunt, or fish.

I dip all the time while hunting and fishing, I have never noticed any problem with it. My dad used to smoke all the time in the woods, and he shot more deer than I can shake a stick at, with both gun and bow.

I smoke in my stand and ive never noticed them to get spooked over it or pay it any attention, last year my feeder was about 60 yards from my stand and I had a cig in my mouth when I shot an eight point.

Both, though to be honest.. I haven't pulled the string on my bow in about four years. I have to agree with you, really not the best idea to be smoking when you are talking about having to be as scent free as possible..especially when bow hunting.
