Anybody hunt or own land in fannin county that has noticed a dramatic increase in deer population? I went from seeing no deer in 18 years to seeing 15 deer in a field together. In the last 3 years, we have been noticing many good looking bucks. This seems like it came out of nowhere, but from what I understand the state is building a new lake east of Bonham and the construction is causing the deer to move north. Does anybody know anything about this?

They are building a new lake, I know that. As far as MORE deer, well, I can't say that. I hunted the government land and it was few and far between. I only saw one buck that was legal.
Mmmm Hmmm

The first deer I ever killed with a bow was shot on the Ladonia unit of Caddo National Grasslands back in 1985. I was 15 and spending the weekend hunting with a buddy who had family in the area. We didnt know there werent supposed to be deer in the area. Still cant convince me of that, saw 17 total in the 1 1/2 days I hunted. Shot a nice little 14 inch 8 point. Coming back from a funeral the other day in Wylie, Gina and I drove up to Paris to get her license plates, and I saw 13 deer in a field just west of Honey Grove and 5 running across a field east of Dodd City. There are some in the area anyway.

Yeah the lake is gonna be here by 2015. I have friends close by that have already sold their places. yes i think the deer population is getting better but its far from "good" deer hunting in my eyes.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QEttQfHlEEyoutube video about bois d'arc creek from TPWD TV, I saw this episode it was good. I know growth means more economic opportunity, but it sure is a shame to sacrifice our once rural heritage and culture so people can water their San Augustine yards and have a backyard pool.

That's it... had a place to hunt at carson, it's going away...
And the one at ladonia.... will ruin some serious beer drinking roads...
I understand the arguments for and against....... but I hate to see family farms underwater so Dallas can have greener lawns at C-stores...
