Let me know if you are interested. I'll pay your gas and beer. Should be fun, beaver has to go.

I could, I could even retrieve it, but I don't think you want to pay round trip diesel for my F350 dually from Dallas and back.

Beaver is in a residential pond in Round Rock. The dam is about 40 feet from someones back door, so we can't use a gun (inside the city limits too). Estimate from a trapper is $1500!

The pellet gun and bow and arrow are probably in violation of some city ordnance. If you are going to go that route, you might as well visit McBrides and get some .22 subsonic ammo and take care of the beaver yourself.

More appropriate would be steel traps set by someone who knows what they are doing. I have the appropriate traps, but again too far for me to drive. You might find a trapper in the area, but as said, you might have city ordinance issues with traps also. But if not. I used to be a member of the Texas Trappers and Fur Hunters Assoc. Google them up and get the list of nuissance control trappers to see if there are any on their list near you you could try to contact for help.

Thanks for the help Sniper John. Talked to several trappers and the city has some stupid ordinance about trapping. Also, we would have to notify all of the neighbors about the traps and some soccer mom would probably raise hell.
I guess I will have to track down some subsonic .22 shells. Going to have to be close to kill it, I suppose.

subsonics are an awesome idea, just do it when no one is around and make it quick. That is the best way, no need in spending hundreds of dollars to trap it. Do it yourself!!!!!

its against the law to shoot beaver, the only method to take is trap
Isn't the best way to save face to keep the lower part shut?

Not knowing the whole story. Is this a city or public pond? If so you can get in all sorts of trouble with any of these suggestions. A city's enforcement will often treat such things as animal cruelty. Subsonic ammo is still loud and a no brainer safety issue to not be shot on water in a public residential area. If this is the case, you really don't have much recourse exept with your city's animal control. But if you have one beaver, you probably have at least a family group of them and more nearby to fill in the territory. If this is an issue of them destroying landscaping, you may just have to landscape accordingly. http://www.beaversww.org/Protect%20Trees.html

I remembered a live beaver trap I saw once. There are others, but I know this one works. Not cheap. Maybe you could talk your local animal control to invest in it for relocating problem beavers. Live Beaver Trap Link

We have wrapped the trees with hardware cloth until we can figure out what to do. It is a pond within the city limits that is owned by the HOA (I'm on the board).

Well the fit has now hit the shan. We used a grappling hook to tear down the beaver dam over the weekend. This morning, we got a call from a local news reporter wanting to talk to us about what the HOA plans to do to the "friendly" beaver family that has taken-up residence on our pond.
Turns-out the people who initially contacted us complaining about the beavers (because the beavers fell one of their trees about 10 feet from their house) contacted the news reporter concerned for the beaver.
I guess we are now stuck with the beavers. I hope the residents appreciate having to pay for all the damage the beavers will eventually cause.
