what are yall's opinions on the 220 swift. i like really fast bullets and it seems to have the best combination between fast and keeping its velocity. on the other hand ive heard that hot shells will ruin a barrel quickly. now back in the day i think that would be more true than now. I just want some opinions

i think your on the right track the swift was labeled as a barrel burner back in the day. I have a heavy barrel swift and have had no problems with it what so ever. super accurate, fast and for a little round it packs a punch.

I have had mine now on 8 yrs . There is no telling how many rounds i have ran down the pipe . I can tell you this it has seen over 2000 rds through it and still puts em in a nickel size group at 100 yards . Yes i reload for it , and they are a little warm but dont believe all you hear about the barrel's burning up fast . Just use your head and dont shoot to fast and keep the temp down and u have nothing to worrie about .

220 Swift is a great round. I have been a big fan for a long time. I had a Ruger M77V that I put many rounds though shooting prairie dogs in Wyoming and Colorado. Always holding dime sized groups. Now I have a M77 with a thin taper barrel that I use for calling coyotes. Why carry the extra weight!! Load them hot with light bullets and they will turn a coyotes insides to jelly without an exit!!

I love my 220 Swift. However the only real difference that I have noticed between it and my 22-250 is that the ammo is a lot more expensive.

Agree totally with Korean Redneck!!! I shoot both rounds!! But reloading for the 220 helps keep the price down and make sure I have plenty to shoot!!!

Either round is great. I don't let walmart make my decisions for me, so I'd likely choose the swift for the xtra HP. But I'm kinda weird anyway, so my wife says. And I reload, so after buying the brass, my ammo all costs about the same.

Or you could meet in the middle and get a .22-250 A.I.

I'd surely go 22-250. The Swift has a bit more juice, but the rim on it can cause feeding issues if you don't load it just right in the magazine. (Every cartridge in front of the rim below it..) This link shows a drawing of the case.
