3-9x40 needed for the .270. Thoughts?

I have always had good luck with Simmons scopes. I kept one on a rem. model 700 270 for along time and never had a problem.

I had a Nikon ProStaff 3-9x40 on a 7mag and it held zero without fail. Good little scope IMO

x3 on the ProStaff. I have a pair of 3x9x50's on my AK & AR. They are awesome scopes for the money! I paid $179 NIB for one at Tomball Pawn and bought a second one off eBay for $150 NIB!

or a Burris FFII. Don't skimp down to anything else the nikon prostaff really is the first scope you want to start considering to put on a rifle you want to hunt with.

not trying to bad talk you or preach to you.....but personally (and this is just my honest opinion) the scope is the last place you should try to pinch pennies. I wouldn't put anything less than a Leupold on your gun. You can probably find a used Leupold of some flavor for not much more than $150.....probably around $200. I have had bad experiences with Simmons and will NEVER own another one. Every rifle I own wears either a Leupold or a Zeiss.....and I'm getting ready to put a 2x Leupold on my 44 mag as well.

+1 on the prostaff it is prob the best scope you can get in that price range. The Burris FF2 is a good option too but just a hair more.

Personally I prefer a nikon over a leupold because I feel you get a better bang for your buck without sacrificing quality.

+1, You can get the scope (3x9 40mm) for 150 + tax if you get them without the package deal.

Look into Sightron scopes. But do agree, a scope is the last thing you want to go cheap on.

Ditto on the Vortex scopes. Check the viper line. I think they may be a bit more than $200, but they are very good scopes. I would put my vortex viper up against a leupold VXIII any day...
Leupold are good scopes, but they are just plain overpriced for what you get. I have several VXIII's, and a mark 4 tactical.... there are scopes that cost less that perform the same. There are scopes that cost just a bit more that perform better. it's not that leupold has gone to crap, it's just that they have made very few advancements compared to others recently

Check out the Redfield. Owned by Leupold, great company backing them up.

I think Nikon is getting the nod because of name brand. I bought a Pentax (I believe it was the Gameseeker, but may have been the gameseeker ii, will check and get back to you) for 100 bucks compared to the 150 dollar Nikon equivalent (this fits the prostaff description). The Pentax was much better in low light. Both were very clear.
I asked the salesman to take them out of the box and looked at them side by side pointed at the darkest place in the store. Pentax was undoubtedly the better scope. This was in 3-9 x 40mm. Go to the store and look for yourself. Best way to do it.

I had a gunsmith buddy of mine talking about how the new Redfields are made by Leupold now. He had a 3-9x50 and I'm really impressed!!!!! For $199 at Academy, you really can't ask for much better without adding quite a bit more money. I think the 3-9x40 was $149. Lifetime Warranty just like the Leupold.

My opinion is that the Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9x40 is a very clear and extremely ruggid scope. I have had one on my 375H&H with no fail. And clearity is comparable to my Ziess conquest. If you watch ebay you can pick one up for $150 new.
