I'm trying to save some money on feeder barrels and I can get them blue 55 gallon barrels that are used to carry cleaning agents behing my friends car dealership. Is there anyway to clean these barrels out without cutting off the top of the barrel because I wanna keep it to where I can just feel the feeder from the small twist cap.

CAR WASH.....Spray out with Engine Cleaner then Rinse. Simple Green and the cheap degreaser from the Dollar store will work too!

You're going to fill it through that small opening? You have way more patience (and strength) than I do. I like to just dump it 'cause those bags do get heavy real quick.

My patience and strength is as limited as TxYothHunters! I just buy lids that will fit the 55 gallon drums and cut the top off. Paint the lids and you are good to go.
Here is a link to the lids I use.

Just cut out the top and be done with it. I don't know how the climate is in your neck of the woods, but it may be that at some point you might want to dump the corn if it molds. JMHO on that.

If not, just do as Mr Clean said...he oughta know about cleaning stuff. grin

I tried the plastic barrels at first but the sides usually started to crumple at around 250 lbs. of corn and then the whole thing became unstable.I tried cross-bracing the legs to no avail and that was a hassle in itself.Do you have a boat dealer in your area? Dealers get their lower unit oil in 55gal drums and the one near me just gave me the empties. There was usually about 2 in. of oil in the bottom so yes,it took some scrubbing but I ended up with free metal drums and to me free is good.
