Earhole or neck is best. If you spend the money on some nosler partition they do good behind the shoulder. Personally I use either .223 or .308 on hogs and from now on I earhole them if possible. Lost one with a 308 behind the shoulder so after that I am going to earhole each one.

Yep. I think so too. Head shots. It's unanimous folks. Heads it is.

Isn't the best way to save face to keep the lower part shut?

If you shoot a big boar don't assume it is dead even if it falls over in it's tracks.

I shot one with my .223 right behind the ear, and I've shot other hogs with it so I know I didn't miss, or place the round wrong, but the hog fell over started kicking and then lay still, as I walked up to it within a few yards it jumped up and took off.

Never found him or even a drop of blood.

Scary!

Jimbo, sounds like you just rung his bell real good with that head shot. Sort of like a knock out punch in a fight. Did you need some clean drawers when he jumped up and ran?

Place I hunt at in Mt Pleasant is run by a very experienced hog killer and he told me "I have seen plenty of hogs under dead get up and run off but I have yet to see one over dead do that"

Alligators and hogs are ornery because of their medulla oblongata.

Just sayin!...It's not a very good feeling. You may knock down a hundred, but it only takes one!

I take them with a .17hmr with a body shot sometimes, they might drop they might run, but then again they run from a good shot with a 30-06. the ones that have dropped to my .17hmr have had some severe internal damage, what the heck they are only pigs, a curse here in my part of Texas.

My opinion and I know am going to get blasted but anywhere you can hit them. These creatures are going to take over TX before to long they populate like no other. They tear up so much crap it is not even funny.

Dont yell it me it is just my opinion, wrong or right I get one. And I do eat everything I shoot besides yotes bobcats and creatures of that nature.

ffread i agree with you 101% we shoot the first one as a kill shot so we can eat it or give to someone who can and,,,,then it is onnnn shot placemebt is not the key....we shoot for mid belly so that they will run off out of the field and will die if not in a min or two,and if not they will in a day or two
