Ok I'm pretty much set on getting an rcbs rock chucker. But my questions are reguarding dies.
.308 bench gun: thinking lee collet dies
22-250 bench and varmint: redding 3 die
.270 purely hunting: redding 3 die
.44 mag some handgun hunting and plinking: I have no idea

if you guys could throw me some insight on the dies and maybe why/why not you would use that style/brand and whatnot I would greatly appreciate it.

Yeah I use the lee deluxe 3 piece set that comes with full length sizer, neck sizer, bullet seater, and a shell holder for your caliber. it is less expensive than any of the others and it all comes in one kit. I get better results out of my COAL with the lee bullet seater opposed to rcbs and others.

I use the 3 die lee sets and buy the factory crimp die as well, the only reason i own other brands of dies is that i get them in trade some times....and Lee no longer makes .257wby dies

for the 308, id rather get a micro adjuster from RCBS or Hornady with a lifetime no questions asked warranty and better quality. carbide dies for the 44mag from one of the lifetime MFRs for a couple bucks more as well.

If it is a true competition rifle and you want to win, Lee dies are the LAST set of dies I would buy for it.

I've got RCBS-Redding-Lee and and old set of
Herter's dies. . . .
I wouldn't say any are better than the other

of course, once again everybody does things different

I know folks that would say 1 or 1/2 MOA is crap
I just want to put my animal down humanely and
I'm happy with that

I have dies from RCBS, Dillion, Redding, and an old set of Pacific which are now Hornady, I like them all. Like maximum stated, I also wouldnt say any are better than the other. Several people I know say stay away from Lee mainly cause they dont have set screws on the set ring. but u can buy rings that do have the set screws. Mainly it depends on the reloading application. Competition match shooting i would go with the higher end. but everyday it cheaper than new ammo, get what you want or can afford. For me Lee dies for 7.5 Swiss $25-$30, RCBS and hornady are $55 and up depending on who sales them.

Redding gives the most consistent results and the least amount of run-out in my experience.

+1, prohunter. I switched from RCBS to Lee a few years ago. Never looked back.
