I have a catahoula/ chocolate lab mix that is almost 8 months old and only 35 lbs. She is turning out to be a lot smaller than I would have figured. Vet is calling 50lbs max and I feel like that is a pretty good guess. She is smart and is learning quickly. I've been working with her and she knows how to retrieve but is she too small?
Texas is better.

Charlie is about 50-55 lbs and kicks arse.
the thing about baiting is, even a rookie hunter could have a 170 bird season if they bait holes

Gunner is only 55lbs and he will retrieve cranes and geese no problems

My female black lab is 45 pounds. She has no problem with late season greaters we shoot in KS.

my yellow lab is 85lbs and i wish he was about 55-60.... she'll do just fine, with any dog just, watch her mannerisms and don't over work her because a dog will do anything to please their master.... good luck with the training

When I get a duck dog I would prefer to have a smaller one, that way it will fit in the yak easier.

I have three, Male 125, female 75, female 65, the 65lb female is the best by a mile and has never met a bird she couldn't handle. The 125lb quits on me b/c he gets tired and is a load in the blind.

Well all of those responses give me a lot more confidence in my petite pup. It will be mostly for dove and quail with the occasional duck if I get a chance. Thanks again.
