How many inches up do you set your protein feeder tubes off of the ground? Really would like to get them high enough to keep coons from junping on them, if that is possible.

We were told 39 by our Biologist. Lets the fawns feed but is taller than the tallest coon can reach supposedly.

I think anyone who is serious about protein feeding will either have fawn tubes on their feeders or will feed out of a low trough. Yes, you will have problems with coons and there will be a waste of feed. However, there has to be some give and take. You either decide to feed from embryo to maturity or you only allow adult deer access to protein.

Tex-Star I don't think I'm as serious about protein feeding as you. Ours is a low fence situation and we are a good ways from our land. We got so much loss from coons that we made the decision to raise ours a bit. The tube height was 36 in. and we put pier blocks under them to raise another 6-8 in. We are at about 42-44 in. I guess we are feeding from 1.5 age deer on up from jan-aug. On a side note at that height we have turkeys that stand on their tip toes and eat out of the tubes.

These will cut your loses to coons etc. Notice I didn't say it will eliminate them, but it will cut them down fairly drastically and they are pretty inexpensive. Beat the daylights out of carpet strips. http://www.bossbuck.com/products/parts/sharkteeth.html

we feed year round. fawns eat the protein that the other deer drop to the ground so don't worry about fawn tubes. we also trap coons year round. the only way to keep coons and squirrels from eating the protein is to constantly trap and remove them Period. Its a never ending process
