i shot one. nice gun. i think its the only WSM that really offers any improvement over the regular lenghth cartridge
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I bought a remington 270wsm right before deer season. Great gun, has a little more kick than a 270 win but doesnt really bother me after going from a 300mag to the 270wsm. I have made some pretty long shots with it. My first kill was a 300 pound boar at 275yds and i hit him right in the head.

I had one up until this season and I loved it. I just got a good deal and move up to a 300 win mag.

It may have inmproved over the 270 win, but from what I can tell the 270 weatherby mag is still a step up on it.

They(except for the 25 and 300) have some improvement over the regular length cartridge. Especially the WSSM's. i.e 223WSSM better ballistics than a 22-250 w/o the noise. Head and heals above the standard .223.
My wife shoots a .243 WSSM. Ballistics closer to a 25-06 without the recoil. Again better than the standard .243 IMO.

The 270WSM is a great round as is the 270 Weatherby Magnum. It took them a lot of years to develop a cartridge to produce about the ballistics as the Weatherby 270.One thing I could never understand is why Winchester or Remington never necked down the 7mm Magnum to a 270 Magnum. It would have had a slight advantage over a regular 270,would have rivaled the 270 Weatherby and probably have about the same ballistics as the new 270WSM.

I have a browning catalog and it has the balistic table for the 270 win, 270 wsm, and the 270 weatherby mag. The 270wsm is faster and flater shootin than even the weatherby and the definately the regular win. I'm looking at the browning bar LH .270wsm. The 270 wsm is looking to be one good prospect.

I have been shooting a regular 270 for over 40 years and my son just bought a new Model 70 270WSM. It is a great cartridge and if I were to buy another gun today the 270WSM would be my pick.

Not in any of the ballistic tables I've seen.
Shooting Times
270 WSM 130gr-3275 150gr-3160
270 Weatherby 130gr-3375 150gr-3245
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

The proof is when you put a chronograph out in front of your rifle. You can look at charts all day, some have great advertised ballistics, but a chronograph tells the true ballistics.

I'm just curious, how do you think they came up with the numbers used in the charts?
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

I shoot a Ruger in .270 WSM and LOVE IT...Nothing has made it futher than 15 yards...I shoot 150 grain Federal Fusions, but I am going to change to a traditional bullet this off season.

Except the test really means nothing because there is no control group, the two rounds were shot out of different barels.

The Weatherby is about 100fps faster but I don't think that the game will know the difference between the 2 if you are a good marksman!!!

you should also notice that every short mag came out on top in that article, but in every other publishing they dont, I think something funny is going on and someone may be bending the truth just a little bit to make the results come out the way they want them too. I am not saying that they arent good calibers, but they are realy no better than the others. The numbers dont lie, but when you get down to the animal the numbers dont mean anything.

ammo is easier to find for the 270 wsm & cheaper compared to the weatherby. rivals the 7mm rem mag in 140 - 150 grain bullets. it is a nice round.

I guess that could have some merit if it is data published by the same manufacturer of the bullet. Winchester says my 150 out of a 300WSM will be 3400FPS. That my friends is very, very, fast. With those numbers I checked it on my chrono. and found it to be right on the money. Data published by Federal and others should be accurate.

Add another 200 fps to that and you have factory 300 Weatherby ammo.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

I can't complain on any shots so far--all have dropped in their tracks as if they were hit by lightning. Course they did the same when hit by my .257 pushing a 115 grain at 3500FPS. I just wanted to try another gun. You never can get too many.
