I am looking to purchase a .17 HMR and have no idea which one or where to start... I don’t want to kill a moose with it; I just want to shoot an affordable accurate round... I am on a budget and that definably will be a factor however with your help I may achieve this... What to stay away from and what to look for, I would assume a bolt action will better accuracy, Just wanna shoot cans an maybe a rabbet...

I have a Marlin 917v and it is outstanding. It is around $210 at Acadmeny. The Savage is a great 1 too.

I would go with the Savage 93r17 over the marlin. The accutrigger is alot better than the marlin trigger.

I've got a mossberg 817 and it's pretty much the cheapest .17 you can buy. I was really suspicious as to whether it would shoot worth a crap but I'm REALLY impressed by mine. It shoots well under 1 moa with anything I put through it. I think they run about 170 new.

I own the Savage 93R17 with the thumbhole stock and accu-trigger, and I really like it. I've put over 1000 rounds through it.

Bartender, bring me anything except brake fluid, cause I don't plan on stopping!

All of the bolt actions pretty much shoot the same as far as accuracy goes, I think all of the autoloaders are suspect at this point due to malfunctions and blowing up in your face. The Marlin and Savage are both fine rifles, as stated the Savage has a better trigger. The CZ models are much nicer in fit and finish, just depends on whether or not you want to spend the extra cash.

I feel more like I do now then I did when I got here.

Savage 93! That's what I have and I love it. Not a problem yet. As for ammo I like the Hornady. The Remington's had about 4 split cases per box and the CCIs didn't perform as well as the Hornadys do.

I'm thrilled to pieces with my Marlin 917VSF. The trigger does leave some to be desired, but a little time and some tinkering and I'm sure it'll be just fine.

20 oz bottle caps are the 100 yd target for my cheapo Savage with a BSA 3x9

Nice group but move back a little!

Savage I think mine cost me about $189 and I put about a $60 BSA scope on it... shoots GREAT out to 100 yds.

Mine does NOT have the accutrigger and I'm glad!

yes it will, this was right out of the box with newly mounted scope, and first trip to the range.
Since then its been sighted at a 100, and have hit shotgun hulls at 200 yds with a hold over.
