It won't blow them apart. I have the Guide Gun for shooting hogs. It's a great gun and has a lot of knock down. You can use the Remintgton 405gr (Academy $23/box) or Hornady Leverrevolution 325gr (Bass Pro $25)with good results

I think it will work fine for short yardage situations and it sounds like you have already made your decision. But me personaly, the 45-70 is not my cup of tea!!!! I believe for the situations you described earlier the 30-30 is a much better fit, and besides, the ammo is cheaper.

I have that same gun and I love mine. I didnt get to use it on a deer this year but I did take a ram and my much uglier lil brother took 2 hogs with it. CHC has taken several deer with his pm him or maybe he will be along shortly to chime in.

Not very accurate. I saw one Forum member gut shot a Ram at TT. He then shot it another 10 times before it went down. I won't give his name as he is from Saginaw TX

As the lawnboy stated I travel all over Texas but live in the Ft Worth area. I am not sure when I will be back in Austin but its never very long we take care of the power plants there.
Roy isnt there a murder scene at Dunkin Doughnuts you need to be investigating?
