Is this going to be a ground blind or elevated. I ain't wanting to get anything started with the world here, but is the blind going to be permanent, or is it for a yearly, 5 year, or other type of lease. I have a design that works, but it is something that once built, is fairly permanent. It can be pre-fabbed, with the roof being the hardest part to deal with. This is Crazyhorse and not campcook, and like I say, I have a design that works for us at least. I would be more than happy to share it with you if you like.

Well I have built a bunch of pre-fab ones. But I don't have the plans written down. If you are close we can get together and I'll help you build one.

You don't see to many plans on paper on any blinds. I just sit down with pencil and paper and just start drawing. Try to make your measurements so you don't have much material waste. Decide what kind of windows (if any) you want and make them. Go to job sites and ask if they have any scrap lumber that they will let you have. All of our blinds are made from scrap lumber and their pretty darn nice. I know this probably didn't help you much, just jump in there and start building it.

This is Crazyhorse, and I know that I am getting way off of this gentlemans question, but Ron and the rest of us that hunt on the place in Montague have become firm believers in ground stands. Especially if they can stay in place year round. I have tried elevated stands, but from my experience deer always come out and look up at them. Deer get to where they don't pay any attention to a barn. Our biggest stand will comfortably hold 2 hunters, and we have deer, and recently bobcat walk with in feet of our shooting windows. If all of us can keep from getting too strong on our ideas about this, this feller might be able to get something pretty decent built from all our ideas.

My aunt owns the land so it's going to be permanent. It is going to be a ground blind that my two sons (8 & 11) and I can hunt from together comfortably. THANKS

Easiest way to build one is just sit down and figure out what you want. I built all mine out of 1 1/4" square tubing they are about 6' X 8' plenty of room and dang sure permenant. You can get "seconds" or damaged metal siding most of the time and it works wonderfully. To me metal is much easier to work with and the blinds are much easier to move.

I finished a really nice one just this past fall. It took me all my spare time in the summer to build it. I hadn't really planned on it but it sort of turned into a work of art rather than a deer blind. One word of advice: whatever design you use, before you sink one nail or screw, how are you going to move it? Always remember the weight factor!! Mine got so heavy we had to pull it onto the trailer it sits on now with a come-a-long ratchet. I'll see if I can find the pictures of it to give you an idea.

The way we got around this, was I built our big blind in the back yard at the house, but built it, prefab style. The roof was the last thing to go on, so after I got the front, back, sides, and floor all built the way I wanted it, I took it apart into the various component parts. we loaded those on the trailer, so that the first piece off was the floor. Then came the front wall, the 2 ends, and the back wall. At that point we secured the rafters and put on the tin. It helped that I had worked at one place building mobile homes and at another building Coachmen travel trailers. The big thing is to use screws for most of your pre-placement construction, and marking each piece so that you will know where it goes when it comes time to set the floor and re-assemble the blind. When you get the floor placed where you want it, then you can use nails to secure the walls to the floor. Still use screws to join the walls to each other, then after you get the rafters in place, use roofing nails with the rubber gasket on them to secure the roof tin to the rafters and top edge of the blind. Note the rafters need to be on the inside of the walls, to help keep out drafts and to tie everything together.

Hey Crazy, let's you and me go in business selling those things. We could make a fortune! Guaranteed that is the easiest way to do it if you have to haul it or don't want it permanant. One thing that I did was put a 1/4" sheet of plywood between the joists and tin so if an acorn fell it wouldn't sound like a gun going off in there!

We have found out, that if it is in a place where you don't ever have to worry about moving it, everything gets used to it being there and it becomes part of the scenery. Everything forgets it is there. My buck last year walked out within 40 feet of the front of the blind, I had to let it get out about 40 yards before it turned broadside so I could shoot. This year we had a Bobcat walk within 20 feet of the front. We have some of the small songbirds that migrate in during the winter land in the shooting windows, next to out guns. I have become such a firm believer in permanently placed ground blinds that I would not use anything else. It is kind of like a barn, how much attention does anything pay to a barn, it is always there, and with the exception of a few days each fall, it does not try to hurt them. JMO

My wife and I hand-painted the camo on the outside of ours with a couple cans of spraypaint and stencils cut out of cardboard. Yeah, it wasn't necessary but like I said before, it kind of turned into a work of art. Anyway, the front looks like a big tree, and we had a owl try to land on one of the branches... kinda surprised us a little. I sure wish I was filming when that happened!

My dad built one when I was 7 or 8 that was big enough for a family of 4. It was affectionatley known as "The Little House on the Prarie." I don't know what he used to build it due to my age at the time but I do know it was big. When it was just me and my dad we could both stand up and move around and never touch each other.

That name is like a lab retriever. It is the most registered name for big deer blind I think since I have friends that call theirs that.

Mine has brand new carpet, battery operated interior lights, a bench seat out of a van with arm rests, sliding plexiglass windows on brushed aluminum slides, fully insulated, and the latest edition of the Texas Trophy Hunter's magazine!

i made a pretty nice deer blind out of one inch square tubing. and welded four oilfield pipes on each of the corners where you can slide pipes inside of them. you can make it into a ground blind or one up in the air. and i used that metal stuff that is on the grills, whatever it is called for the floor and then put carpet on top of that.

If we are thinking alike, it is too late for me, but they might be hope for you. Just remember, electro-shock therapy is just like wading the Brazos, don't fight the current and it won't hurt near as bad.

Did you ever look at the comic strip Mutt's, it is either in the Startle-gram, or the Dallas M.N., anyway, one of the charactersin it is a cat that has a little pink sock that it plays with. Well, when our computer here at the house went down, I was pathetic. When we got it back up and running, I was just like that cat in the comic strip.
