Depends on what kind. They will eat alfalfa but kinda have to be trained to it with feed of some sort on it.Peanut hay would probably work. Grass hay, no, I don't think so.

We put out alpha hay for the very first time and they were eating it the next day.

depends on where you're at I would guess. . .
from my limited experience I've seen 'em eat
whatever vegetation would stand still long enough
to nibble on,including round bales stored in a
hay meadow, although I would think they would prefer
green fresh browse of some kind

they will get into that..... if they are out there long enough and stuff starts growing out of them, or they are fresh and trash is mixed in with it. The actual hay just kind of gets in the way and becomes part of their diet until they are finished with that bale. They'll also bed down next to them to get out of the wind and while they are sitting there, they'll have some nibbles.

I tried alfalfa this year, put a 1/2 bale by each feeder, with no luck, put some corn on top of the bale and they ate some. Then broke some up and scaddered it around the feeders. The pics showed the deer eating the corn and leaving the alfalfa alone. I still have 2 bales in my garage.

Try planting alfalfa they love it when it is growing, a small food plot would work. We dedicated a small field to it when I was growing up. Comes back every year for a while, and you can bale it for hay.

MAn our deer love Alfalfa Hay they eat it up in a day. They will not go to it if there is alot of green around you pretty much have to wait until late in the season.
