Any body ever used either the 30-30 factory ammo or reloaded hornady lever revolution ammo????
If so how did it perform on either deer or hogs? and whats the trajectory like.

I have not tried the 30-30 yet. I've used it quite a bit in my 45-70. It does a great job in that. I'm sighted in 3" high at 100 and it's 4" low at 200 and 28 low @300 Hornady's website will give you the ballistic info.

In my win 94 it shot 6 inches higher than other ammo. Did shoot true though

I used it in a older (1964 +/-) Marlin with Micro Groove barrel. The gun liked it but then started keyholing every shot. I contacted Hornady and they verified that the Marlins & Micro Grove barrels have problems with the ammo. I was told that a good cleaning would solve the problem but it has not in my gun. I went back to Federal and the gun will shoot 3 shot clover leaf groups with it. NO More Hornady Lever revolution for me.

i guess it depends on you and your gun. i love the leverevolution for my 30/30. rock solid at the range. i get the best groups with it easy. you can stack them up all day. however they are too expensive for me. i shot every other brand i can find and the rem. 150 grain corelockts seem to stay pretty tight. almost half the price as hornaday and a lot easier to find. if i had money to burn i would only shoot leverevolution rounds.

If you're primarily hunting hogs and deer at sub-100yds - especially if using iron sights - I'd stick with the standard ammo (just not the Monarch junk). If you're looking to get better accuracy, using a scope, and/or anticipate shots over 100yds, the LeverEvolution is the way to go. My Marlin loved the stuff, and I never experienced a keyhole.
When you think about it, ammo is probably not real high on the list of what you spend to hunt, and saving 50 cents on a bullet but losing out on a shot is pretty false economy, IMO.

i agree RonKaye on most points. if you only shoot a few times a year then you are right about false economy i would use only hornaday. i go to range everytime before a hunt to make sure it is sighted in. also try to go twice a month anyway to stay sharp and practice different shots. 50 cents a bullet adds up quickly. i guess it depends on how much you shoot and at what range.

Thanks guys, just sent out payment for my new 30-30 and I'll give the hornady a shot for hunting, and lead tips for the range I shoot alot!!! or at least I think I shoot alot for a hunter.
I shoot a box of ammo for each of my "deer rifles" every month; and I reload so its preaty cost effective.
Speaking of which if any of you guys have; once fired 30-30 brass, reloading dies or bullets your looking to get rid of let me know.

If you shoot standard ammo on the range, then take the LeverEvolution ammo hunting, you're gonna be in for a surprise. At 100yds, my Marlin, which I had previously sighted in using 170gr, wasn't even on the paper with the Hornady ammo. Had to move in to 50 yds, get it on paper, then re-sight at 100.
As to the economy factor, I shot an average of 2 boxes per month, which came out to about $40 for the Hornady, versus $25 for the regular. Came out to about $180 difference over the course of a year. I can't see gambling a hunt for that little amount.
